Black History Month African American Wax Museum

In honor of Black History Month, third grade students at Pine Valley will present an African American Wax Museum. The Wax Museum will take place on Friday February 22 (Time TBA). Each student will select a famous African American to portray. They will have three weeks to complete a research project. The project will consist of researching and documenting facts, making a poster, and writing and performing a short speech. Students are not expected to do all the research at home. Class time will be allotted to work on the project. On Monday, February 4th all students need to have selected a person to portray in the wax museum. This aligns with the new Common Core Standards and Essentials: Writing Standards W.3.2 – Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly. A: Introduce a topic and group related information together; include illustrations when useful. B: Develop the topic with facts, definitions, and details. C: Use linking words and phrases to connect ideas. Social Studies Essentials: 3.H.1: Understand how events, individuals and ideas have influenced the history of local and regional communities. 3.H.2: Use historical thinking skills to understand the context of events, people, and places.
