HEAD GAME: Each time you step into a bowling center presents another chance to develop your skills and increase enjoyment of the sport. Myelin the good habits and positive mind

GRIP:

FILM: View both footwork and swing (both interconnected) 3 places to filmBack view- have camera directly in line with throwing shoulder Side view- two lanes over from the bowler @ the foul line tracking until finish positionBall motion- get above the bowler (on a chair etc.) filming ball leaving the hand until reaches pin deck

What to look for: Hall of fame positionsBack view: 1. Stance, ball not visible from behind 2. Position of the ball at the top of the backswing lining up with the bowlers head. 3. Pivot step (step before slide) inside of head4. Slide on same board as pivot step and very straight5. Ball position at the release directly under bowlers head.Side view: speed control1. Quiet shoulder during the push away2. Head on top of the pivot step3. Timing spot (center piece) slide foot in front of the bowlers head and swing parallel to floor4. Head position over/not past knee at release point5. Back leg gap (amount of space between front & back leg) in your finish position

To improve: start with the positions at the beginning of the approach then to the end of the approach. (NOT all at once) Fixing things in the beginning may cause the things in the end to go away.

SETUP: a good start leads to a good finish

STANCE:Knees flexed slightlySpine bent slightly forward at 10 degreesLine up left foot with right foot halfway back.Drop right shoulder so that eye is parallel with swing lineBowling ball placed in the swing line

Push Away: stay tall and keep shoulder quiet will give you a smooth and consistent down swing. Using 10% effort or less in the push away will allow you to use remaining 90% for when it counts.

Stay tall in the first couple of steps (keeping head behind knee & center of gravity at your core and not your shoulders) and using back foot spin to have the RIGHT HIP STAY DOWN As you go into the slide hip goes down you automatically keep your ELBOW TUCKED and HAND BEHIND the ball. Target on lane never moves. When right hip goes up at bottom of the swing this rolls your shoulder forward and in as your head goes in front of your knee. Elbow in not close to body, thumb is front your fingers and hand rolls up on top of the ball and gives you a weak release and a flying elbow. Ball getting pulled down by gravity not going forward with the hand and requires elbow to fly out to be able to release the ball.

TAPE: allows you to use a lighter grip pressure, relaxed/loose arm swing to be able to let go of the ball. Always use tape to allow your hand to fluctuate (thumb inserted @ angle will decide tape placement) When layering more than one piece, place second slightly farther down. Black- (smooth) clean release. Place on back nail side of thumb in hole w/ round side up White- (textured) more grip. Place on padded thumb side of hole w/ round side up

BALANCE: tilt forward from the hips, lower right arm and shoulder, forward bend from the hips, left arm out with thumb down/palm back, finish position and arm coming straight through. (in-line with head) Elbow ending under chin and hand slightly outward.

RELEASE: RELAXED wrist modern whipping motion (falling off the thumb and onto the fingers) Right shoulder stays behind the right ear through the approach Longer time period from thumb exit to finger release will create more revs As your reach the release zone the stiff wrist begins to relax and heal of the palm starts to come forward

ADJUSTMENTS: dont worry too much of the ball placement at the arrows but be more concerned with the break point of your ball reaction. Where do you see the ball hooking/motion toward head pin do the right thing? By the ball reaction at the breakpoint determine where to aim/move depending on your style Once breakpoint is found, determine what it requires you to get your ball to that exact point on the lane Eg. 9-10 board breakpoint Where am I down lane?

CONTROL ANGLE: Medium hook/rev player Tweener = Slightly open stance body angle with right foot a little farther back to finish at the release angle slightly open.

SHOT CYCLE:1. Intention (body, lane & spirit) and Planning- This is what Im doing and this is how Im going to do it (my autographed shot w/ specific tilt rev) *Part where you give your word to something Keep your Word2. Action- a knowing feeling where you decide OK now *Moment where you go from being static to going into motion. NOT thinking about how Im going to bowl anymore but getting into ACTION!3. Observation w/out judgment- aware A moment when the ball comes off your hand and for a split second you ask yourself Did I keep my word? *Not an immediate oh no!!! Highest form of bowling intelligence is the ability to observe what you have done without reacting or judgment.4. Reaction- Im going to school right now so Im observing the reaction/pin fall. The 10pin I left was not an accident and there was a reason behind it. The approach and release felt good all I need to do is adjust. *Not RATS I LEFT A STUPID 10 PIN!!!5. Clear- moment between frames to clear your mind and reset. Whatever happened in your Observation step is going to set you up for the Intention and planning of your next shot.

Develop Ball Arsenal:1st thing to look at the cover stock shell of the ball
