Bellevue Meta-BurbBellevue Meta-Burb attempts to understand the dominant form of development in the United States; suburban development. This project takes an approach that tries to balance theory, research and practice to the point of developing a building strategy and potential typology. Contrasting other attempts of dealing with suburbia from within the suburban context, this project does not attempt to alter suburbia as we know it, nor transform it into something different. Rather, it understands it, and transcends beyond typical models of suburban and urban development to create the Meta-Burb.

SUBURBSHOUSE IN THEBUY YOUR VERY OWN
Eighteen Inches Exchange TowerLocated in The Bowery district of lower Manhattan this residential tower exchanges private space for public amenity. My conceptual approach was influenced by these words from Here is New York by E. B. White:
The eighteen inches were both the connection and the separation that New York provides for its inhabitants. ... New York blends the gift of privacy with the excitement of participation.

McCall Carbon-Neutral LivingThis design-build project created a bunkhouse for the McCall Outdoor Science School that focused on using architecture as pedagogy, aiding in teaching visitors about environmental friendliness. Utilizing passive heating strategies, straw bale construction, and energy efficient systems, the bunkhouse also fit into the goal to make the campus carbon neutral. The bunkhouse remains unrealized due to lack of funds.

Perspectiva Artificialis
This project was an exercise in representing a building as its essence or presence. In order to do this I collaged views of the UI Student Recreation Center to create a two-dimensional composite representative of the whole. With an understanding of two-point perspective, a three-dimensional representation of the building can be extracted from the 2D collage. The resulting maquette then presents the building in a way that showcases not only the building but also the primary users and their essence.
