The three main centres also work through smaller centres which include dedicated branches and other locations at educational establishments in their respective cities. Most courses are 30 hours over 10 weeks and there are three main terms per year with a shorter term in the summer. Classes are offered between Monday and Saturday. The busiest times are Friday evening and Saturday mornin g for Porto and Greater Lisbon, and Wedne sday and Friday for Coimbra. Most teaching staff work Tuesday to Saturday. YLs make up the majority of students and therefore teachers are expected to have experience in and enthusiasm for teaching YLs. We offer YL courses for Primary, Junior, and Teens age group s. Adult courses includ e General English, Exa m Preparatio n and Business Skills courses. We also offer training courses for companies either at their premise s There are opportunities for Continuing Professional Development through an in-house teacher development programme, as well as Delta and TYLEC funding. Main dut ies

1Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of differentcustomer groups taking into account individual learning styles

2Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout thecourse, and actively promote learner autonomy

3Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and

related services, in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team

4 Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards

5 Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and highstandards in teaching and learning, and maintain British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELTpractices

6Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students’understanding of contemporary UK

7Support local marketing and promotional strategy, and assist the teaching centre team in deliveringexcellent customer service
