What is on the DfE list:

Year 10s on the following qualifications (in the 14 subjects on the DfE list)

• Achievements will be recognised in the 2014 headline measures

• Both sizes will count as equivalent to 1 GCSE

•In Science and Performing Arts schools can choose to teach either the QCF Extended Certificate or the new BTEC Awards

Year 10s on the:

- 90 GLH Certificate (all subjects)

• Still valuable in progression terms, BUT:

• Achievements will not be recognised in the 2014 headline measures (because smaller than a 120 GLH GCSE)

• If headline measures are important, we recommend moving up to the:

- QCF BTEC Extended Certificate (180 GLH),

BTEC Level 2 Firsts (QCF) in 14 subjects are on the DfE list for recognition in the headline 5 A*-C measure in 2014 in 2 sizes; all will count as equivalent to 1 GCSE.

The Edexcel Proficiency Awards

• The Proficiency in Mathematics Suite is a new suite of smaller (60-70GLH) stand-alone mathematics qualifications known as ‘Awards’

• ‘Proficiency’ is about mastery of mathematical techniques

• These awards assess the competency to perform the mathematical skills across a number of content areas within mathematics:

Edexcel Award for Proficiency in Number and Measure at Level 1 and Level 2 (accredited Summer 2011)

Edexcel Award for Proficiency in Algebra at Level 2 and Level 3

Edexcel Award for Proficiency in Geometry at Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3

Edexcel Level 1 Award for Proficiency in Statistics at Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3
