Funding is currently allocated to 16-18 learners for some programmes on the LARA, with the assertion from Edexcel that all pathways will be funded from Sept 2012.
ProposalThe proposed strategy is to move to enrolling
16-18 learners onto the 90 credit level 3 diploma as discrete, one year course, with progression onto the 18 unit extended diploma through the usual college application or enrolment process.
RationaleImprove retentionImprove successRecognise a full year of studyEncourage conscientious learners, as
progression onto year 2 is contingent on successfully completing year 1
Encourage lecturers to examine curriculum design and ensure units are completed in a timely fashion
Ensure a full year of funding can be drawn down for a full year’s work.
Risks Is this an unnatural break in the learner
journey? (AS – A2 would suggest not)Can we advise learners enrolling in
September 2012 in a suitable fashion?Might this discourage learners from applying
or enrolling?19+ funding?
