    THERE ARE ABOUT 4.5 LAKH (BY NOV 2007) REGISTEREDVEHICLES - 90% ARE CARS & TWO WHEELERS

    TRAVEL DEMAND OF 12 LAKH PASSENGER TRIPS PER DAY

    PRIVATE VEHICLES CONTRIBUTE TO 65% OF TRAVEL NEEDS

    (7.8 LAKH TRIPS)

    TRAVEL DEMAND PROJECTED TO GROW TO 16 & 28 LAKH

    TRIPS PER DAY BY 2011 AND 2021

    IN FUTURE ROAD CAPACITY WILL BE A CONSTRAINT

    TRANSPORT NETWORK WILL NOT ONLY REQUIRE EXPANSION

    BUT WIDENING / STRENGTHENING, AS WELL .. ARREST THIS TREND AND PROMOTE PUBLIC TRANSPORT -
