BLS 235. Mock Trial Practicum. (1; maximum 6)Practical experience in intercollegiate mock trial competition; requirestravel to intercollegiate mock trial tournaments; may not be countedfor credit toward any major in the School of Business. Course may berepeated for up to six hours.Prerequisite: one year of collegiate mock trial experience and/orpermission of instructor; only members of mock trial team may enroll.

BLS 316. Legal Writing and Reasoning. (3)Students in this course will learn strategies for effective andpersuasive legal writing, including the appropriate methodologies forlegal reading, research and analysis. Students will gain experiencewriting in a number of genres, including case briefs, memorandaof law, and professional correspondence.); sophomore standing orabove.Prerequisite: ENG 111/112 or waiver of the 111/112 requirement(through AP credit, honors program etc.Cross-listed with ENG.

BLS 340. Internship. (0-20)Available to Farmer School of Business (FSB) majors and minors.Available for 0 credit hour during spring, summer and fall terms.Available for 1 credit hour during summer terms only. For one hour ofcredit, student must secure a sponsoring FSB faculty member withinhis/her major or minor to supervise the internship and accompanyingrequired internship reflection paper. BLS 340 is not available duringwinter term. Students are to work through their respective academicdepartments to enroll in the course. Credit/no credit only. Note: FSBstudents may earn a maximum 2 credit hours toward graduation forBLS/BUS/ECO/ESP/FIN/ISA/MGT/MKT 340.Prerequisite: 55 earned hours and permission of department.

(3) (MPT)Nature and sources of law; legal analysis and reasoning; judicialsystem, litigation and alternative dispute resolution; constitutionaland administrative law; criminal law; law of torts and productsliability; ethics; international business law; law of contracts; law ofagency; employment law; and government regulation of business.

BLS 437. Cyberlaw. (3) (MPT)Designed and intended to introduce the student to the legal issuessurrounding e-commerce. Will develop awareness as to how theinternet functions; the legal restrictions and limitations placedupon providers of internet service and those who do business onthe internet; also explores issues raised in the area of intellectualproperty.Prerequisite: BLS 342.

BLS 442. Business Associations & Communal Law. (3) (MPT)Study of the legal framework of various organizational forms inbusiness; partnership; corporations; securities regulation and thestudy of the law of sales; commercial paper; secured transactions andbankruptcy.Prerequisite: BLS 342.

BLS 443. Property Law. (3)Principles of real and personal property law; estates in land,instruments of conveyance, mortgages and leases; personal propertytopics include bailments, intellectual property, and computer law.Prerequisite: BLS 342.

BLS 462. Estates, Wills & Trusts. (3) (MPT)Legal, financial, and practical considerations in creation, management,and conservation of an estate. Trust principles and practices; andfederal estate and gift rules and planning techniques.Prerequisite: BLS 342.

BLS 464. International Business Law. (3) (MPT)Provides framework for understanding international businessand legal environment within which it operates. Study traditionalcommercial law topics, such as rights and obligations of buyerand seller under contract for international sale of goods. Study ofprivate law of international business transactions and public law ofinternational trade. Credit for graduation will not be given for morethan one of BLS 464 or BLS 483.Prerequisite: BLS 342.

BLS 465. Ethics, Law, & Business. (3) (MPC)Explores legal aspects of business decision-making from an ethicalperspective. Focuses on the business manager as an ethical decision-maker and on the corporation as a social moral agent. Conductedin seminar style using cross-functional cases from the core businessdisciplines. This course may not be used as a finance major elective.Prerequisite: Farmer Business School core courses and seniorstanding or permission of instructor.

BLS 665. Business and Its Legal Environment. (3)A comprehensive survey of the nature and functions of our legalsystem and its importance to manager-citizens.
