SUN NEWSPAPERS

8AWEDNESDAYJUNE 15, 2016

Expect to see PopUp Art Galleries throughout the city this summer. Launching the program was the idea of Leah Sherman, owner of Collectors Gallery and Framery.

The first display will be at Swurlz Frozen Yogurt in the Galleria Plaza next to Frank Theaters Galleria in South Venice.

“The first PopUp Art display is from June 21 to 26, just in time for the summer solstice when thoughts turn to frozen treats and the beach,” Sherman said. “This program provides the good combination and opportunity to promote the shop as a gallery and the art at its best.”

Opening the PopUp Program will be Beach House Art used in the movie, “The Face of Love.” The art is based on a contemporary style by T.C.Harris, a young lady who chose to transform old black and white 1950-’60s postcards of ladies in bathing suits by adding vivid bold colors to their suits.

“These giclée on can-vas prints embrace sum-mer and will make your dream beach house,” Sherman said. “Such was the appeal of her work she was invited to have pieces in the movie. Each piece is headless as

Harris believes it lends an air of mystery.”

A visit to a PopUp Gallery at Swurlz is much more than visiting an art display. To add fun to their visit, Sherman is providing the framed art, making up the display and providing

the tropically colored adhesive Post-it notes for customers to write their comments. They then affix them to the wall by the artwork.

In return, they receive a $1-off Swurlz frozen yogurt coupon and a 10 percent discount

coupon on a future custom framing by Collectors Gallery and Framery at 114 South Nokomis Ave., on the island.

In order to create excitement and give a little urgency for this special summer fun

campaign, the PopUp Gallery display lasts only a few days.

The next popup gal-lery will be staged at La Dolce Vita on the island, dates to be announced, displaying the works of an artist who portrays the women of Paris

in local picturesque settings.

Sherman is seeking Venice business locations for PopUp Galleries.

For details, call Leah Sherman at Collectors Gallery & Framery, 114 S. Nokomis Ave., at 941-488-3029.

Norma Jean’s debuts Grill Room menu, upgrades

If you’re looking to have lunch or dinner this summer at the Stump Pass Grille, you’ll need to come up with Plan B for now.

The former snack bar turned waterside tiki bar and restaurant is closed until October, when it will reopen un-der new management.

Stump Pass Grille, which shares the land with the marina of the same name at the end of Maryland Avenue

overlooking Lemon Bay, has come to the end of its lease. The marina owners are tak-ing over the restaurant management.

“We’re looking to be open by the end of October. It just depends on the con-struction,” said marina general manager Doug Reichard.

Currently, the marina staff are looking to expand the kitchen as well as to offer more menu items. Reichard promises, though, to keep menu favorites

and “the same great atmosphere.”

The name of the restaurant will also be changing, Reichard said, but doesn’t have a new name yet.
