13. Repeat Step 12 and refer to Figure 36 for fabric identification, placement and orientation to make (10) Block Twenty-Six triangles.

15. Follow Figure 38 and sew the assorted blocks together into rows as shown to make the Center Block. Note: Pay attention to the block orientations.

14. Sew (1) 3 ¾” Fabric F triangle to the bottom of (1) 2 ½” x 9 ½” Fabric O strip. Trim the Fabric O even with the Fabric F triangle as shown in Figure 37 to make (1) Block Twenty-Seven triangle. Repeat to make (4) Block Twenty-Seven triangles total.

Page 5Buttermilk Winter Quilt 2

Fig. 39

Quilt Top Assembly(Follow the Quilt Layout while assembling the quilt top.)16. Sew the (4) 1 ½” x WOF Fabric C strips together end to end with diagonal seams. Measure the length of the Center Block and cut (2) strips to that length. Sew the borders onto the Center Block.

17. Sew (3) 1 ½” x WOF Fabric C strips together end to end with diagonal seams. Measure the top and bottom of the Center Block (after the side borders were added) and cut (2) strips to that length. Sew the strips to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

18. Repeat Steps 16-17 and add the 3 ½” Fabric F borders and the 1 ½” Fabric O borders to the Center Block.

19. Measure the side of the Center Block. Trim (2) 5 ½” Fabric U strips to that length. Center Fabric U strip on (1) side of the Center Block and pin in place. Start sewing the strip a ¼” from the top edge of the block and stop a ¼” from the bottom edge. DO NOT TRIM THE EXCESS. Repeat with the opposite side.

20. Repeat Step 19 to sew (1) Fabric U strip to the top and to the bottom of the quilt top, making sure to stop and start ¼” away from each end of the Center Block. To miter each corner, fold the Center Block on a diagonal, wrong side together. This should line up the strips from adjacent sides (Fig. 39).

21. Starting at the sewn seam (represented by the arrow in Figure 39), draw a 45-degree line to the edge of the fabric. Sew on the drawn line. Trim the excess fabric leaving a ¼” seam. Repeat this step with the remaining corners to make the quilt top.

22. Layer and quilt as desired.

23. Sew the (9) 2 ½” x WOF Fabric O strips together, end to end with 45-degree seams, to make the binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.

24. Bind as desired.
