He was born in 1643 in the city of Rouen, France.

In 1666 Robert de la Salle sailed to New France. In 1681 la Salle set out in a canoe to travel

down the Mississippi river. In 1682 Robert de la Salle claimed the

Mississippi river and the land around it for france.

In 1684, La Salle sailed to north America with more than 200 settlers.

The king of France sponsored Robert de la Salle to claim land.

The impact Robert de le Salle had given France the entire claim to the Mississippi valley.

The African Americans told Robert de le Salle about the Ohio and the Mississippi rivers.

He spent nine years as a Jesuit student and teacher. He traveled to the new world after renouncing his vows.
