Participatedin battles at Winchester, Gettysburg, twice at Brandy Station,Cloyd's Mountain, Bulltown, and numerous skirmishes. Discharged12 Sep 1863 (had only one arm). Born Calhoun(Lewis) Co.1841-1843. Age 17, farmer, Calhoun Co. 1860 Census.Enlisted Williamsburg, Greenbrier County, W.Va. 1 Mar. 1863. Notstated if present or absent on muster-in-roll dated March 1863.Enlisted in 20th Virginia Cavalry, Company H, at Camp Northwest,W.Va. on 1 June 1863. Elected 1st Lieutenant 4 June 1863.Commanding Company H, 2 Oct. 1863. Absent in arrest 31 Oct.1863-31 Aug. 1864. Absent 1 Sep. 1864-31 Oct. 1864 (dated 30 Dec.1864) in arrest. BISHOP, John, Private, Company I, 53rd Kentucky Infantry.Enlisted 1864, discharged 1865. Union.

BLAIR, Lindsey, born 11 Sept. 1837, Greenup, Ky., died Clarksburg,W.Va., 6 Oct. 1930. He was a son of Jeremiah and Ruschia MullinBlair. He enlisted in 1861 at Burning Springs in Company K of 2ndWest Virginia Infantry, serving under Capt. Andrew Grubb. Soonafter the "Philippi races," 3 June 1861 he was in the Laurel Hill andthe skirmish at Corrick's Ford, north of Elkins, where Gen. RobertS. Garnett, Confederate general, was killed. Blair took part inthirty-seven engagements, many important battles along theGreenbrier River, was in the Richmond and Potomac campaigns.Captured at Jackson River in Virginia, he was imprisoned atAndersonville Prison for twelve months, suffering exposure to theweather, thirst, starvation, and inhumane treatment. He said helived on a pint of cornmeal a day in the prison. At the end of theyear he was transferred to Belle Island Prison on the James Riverin Virginia, where he remained for four months and until the endof the war. Men froze to death, he said, in that prison. Musteredout at Wheeling he returned home and married Sarah Johnson andthey had six sons and daughters; after her death he married FronaDeems, daughter of Isaiah and Harriet Nutter Deems and they hadten children. Union.

BLAND, Henry H., Private, born 15 Apr. 1841, Richland Co., Ohio,died at Howard, Okla., 6 May 1907, buried Bethlehem Cemetery,Calhoun Co. Enrolled 14 Oct. 1861 at Wheeling, Va., Company K, lstRegt., West Virginia Infantry. Honorably discharged at Wheeling on28 Nov. 1864, 20 years, 5'10', sandy complexion, black eyes, darkhair. Contracted typhoid fever in June 1862, which resulted inrheumatism, heart and back problems. Was treated in hospitals atAlexandria, Va., Point Lookout near Washington, D.C. MarriedPerie Ann Renner at Greene Co., Pa., 31 Dec. 1865, children:Martha, Susan, Mary, Lorney, Clara, Andrew J., Rachel, James,Virginia, Levi, and Arthur. Union.

[According to the 1864 WV AdjutantGeneral's Report, Hyram/Hiram Bonar, 29, born in Marion County,was in the 12th Infantry, 27 Aug 1862-Feb 1863, at which time hewas honorably discharged on account of disability. -- At age 33, hemustered in with Company "B" of the 17th Inf on 30 Aug 1864. The1864 Adjutant General's Report of his record in the 17th Infantrystates: "Served 9 months in 12th Inf. Honorably Discharged." ]

Laughlin,Union soldier, by Confederate soldiers in Pocahontas Co. on orabout the 24th day of July 1863. Deserted. Captured 30 Oct. 1863in Calhoun Co. Confined at the Atheneum Prison 20 Nov. 1863.Transferred to Camp Chase 20 Nov. 1863. Confined at Camp Chase21 Nov 1863. Desires to take the oath of allegiance 10 June 1864.Statement at Camp Chase 25 Jan. 1865 lists his age as 33 and fromCalhoun County. He says he went to the store of Absalom Knotts (arebel recruiting officer) who tried to persuade him to enlist in hiscompany. Brannon refused and went home. Several days later hewas taken by a guard of three men and sent to Monroe Co., W.Va.
