Northwestern PublishingHouse Book FairCalvary will be hosting a NPH book fair after the services on March 5 and 6. There will be a number of books laid out for you to peruse to see if you would like to order them for your personal library. The will be a number of books under the following categories: New Releases, Books for Com-paring Religion, Books for Women, Lutheran Reformation Books, Devotional Books, Children Books and Books for Family Life.

Tuition Tax CreditDon’t forget about the Arizona Tuition Tax Credit. There are new brochures on this on the back counter at church. Rather than the HELP Foundation op-erating this, ACSTO (Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization) is now in charge of this. There are two bro-chures explaining the program and the credit maximums for both the original tax credit and the Overflow/PLUS tax credit. You can help support Lutheran education and receive a credit on your Arizona state income taxes by this pro-gram. Please make use of this program if you are able to do so.

If you have any questions, please speak to Pastor Spaude or you can contact Jeff Weinstein who is the WELS Church Coordinator for this program (520-909-7649 or [email protected]. More in-formation can be found on the website acsto.org. We have one student at Pil-grim Lutheran School in Mesa and one at Arizona Lutheran Academy. Please speak with Pastor Spaude if you would like to designate the donation to go to their tuition expenses.

Holy Week ScheduleMaundy Thursday: Come to the upper room, as it were, in Jerusalem and cele-brate the institution of the Lord’s Supper with Jesus. There will be a Communion Service held on Thursday, March 24, at 7:00 pm. to mark our Maundy Thursday celebration.

Good Friday: On Good Friday, Jesus defeated sin, death and the devil for us by his suffering and death on the cross. In honor of that, Calvary will be hav-ing two Tenebrae services (services of darkness) marking this on Good Friday, March 25, at 1:00 pm. and 7:00 pm.

Easter Sunday: On Easter Sunday we will rejoice in the triumph of our Savior with our Easter song services at 7:00 am. and 10:00 am. There will be an Easter breakfast served following the 7:00 am. service. A sign-up sheet for this is on the back patio at church. (Please note that there will be no Saturday worship service this weekend.)

Guinea Pig Potluck and Bingo RecapBY SUE SCHROEDERIf you missed out on this special annual event, you certainly had a rather ordinary supper at home on Sunday, January 31. And, you missed the “rough” time the 40 “serious” Bingo players were giving caller Brad Reinke. The coveted prunes were won by Anne Kelsey, who is sure to turn them into some delicious dessert. Look for this fun-loving event in January 2017.

Friendship Circle Outing Recap: Pioneer ArizonaBY SUE SCHROEDERIf you weren’t one of four ladies who visited the Living History Museum on Saturday, February 20, you missed out on an absolutely delightful morning. Lunch, of course, was required so we visited a nearby Chili’s and ordered delicious salads. If you are up for fun and getting to know your Calvary friends, sign up for the next Friendship Circle activity.

ChristTeens Senior Dinner RecapBY SANDY WARSKOWOn Sunday, February 21, the ChristTeens hosted their annual Senior Dinner. This year’s theme was Hawaiian Luau. We were blessed with about 40 Calvary Hawaiian attendees. The teens welcomed the seniors when they arrived with a lei, and invited them to limbo on in. We mingled with some pineapple salsa, mint mango, and non-alcoholic Mai Tai’s while having several games to choose from. They included Hoop Ring Toss, Musi-cal Beach Towels, Coconut Bowling and Volcano Toss, then concluding the game hour with “Pass the Lei” to be played by all before entering the dining room. The seniors were then

treated to a freshly roasted Kalua Pig, rice, macaroni salad, grilled pineapple, fresh veggies and rounded out with home-made Lava Cake and Pineapple Upside-Down Cake. The teens challenged the seniors to a little Hawaiian trivia. The evening was concluded with Cammielle and the other teens doing a Ha-waiian dance, showing the complexity of this dance. But then the teens stepped aside to let the seniors see the beauty of this graceful dance with Cammielle performing by herself. The se-niors were left with a little teaser of what is to come next year. The ChristTeens and leaders thank you for joining us.

Your Ladies Guild at WorkBY JAN ENDERLEThis group is open to all women of Calvary. The March meet-ing has been changed to the third Thursday (March 17) at 9:30 a.m. in the church fellowship hall. Our meetings consist of a Bible study with Pastor Spaude and a business meeting. This is a good opportunity to be involved in your church activities. Lent LunchesLadies Guild would like to thank all who volunteered to pro-vide and serve lunch after the 11:00 a. m. Lent services. Food PantryCalvary has been blessed to be able to help members and reach out to non-members through our food bank. We are able to re-stock the shelves with the dollars Thrivent donated the last two years. These funds are no longer available after 2015. The Ladies Guild has a balance of $1,674.67 earmarked by Thrivent to be used as needed for the food bank. At our last meeting we decided to use up to $400 per year until the funds are depleted

“West Side Story”

BY SUE SCHROEDERThe Alpha Pregnancy Baby Shower is rapidly approaching. Time to finish up the infant/toddler projects you have been working on. Wrap the gifts up and bring them on April 9. Your special items will be greatly appreciated by the families in need. If you’d rather donate money to the organization, feel free to do that. A basket will be available at the shower to put your contributions in. Keep your eyes on the Courier and bul-letins for up-to-date information on the shower/luncheon. All Calvary ladies are encouraged to attend. If you wish to assist in organizing the event, contact Sue Schroeder at 480-820-3431.

BY SUE SCHROEDEROnly thirteen tickets have been secured for this musical pro-duction at Gilbert’s Hales Theatre. It is an ageless tale of Ro-meo and Juliet, set against the backdrop of NYC gang warfare in the 1950’s. As rival gangs battle over their turf, a boy and a girl from opposing sides fall in love and begin their tragic fight for survival. The date is August 13, at 3:00 p.m. Regular price is $28, but we are paying the group price of $22 per ticket. To reserve your spot, call Sue Schroeder at 480-820-3431. If you haven’t attended a production at Hales Theatre, you are in for a treat. We have great seats all grouped together. This is an event you ought not miss!

for re-stocking and purchasing gift cards. Donations of food are still needed. There is a container for these donations on the patio every Sunday. However we have noticed it has been mis-taken for a trash receptacle. Please look carefully. Thank you for the continued support. God bless Liz Hawkes for all the hard work with Thrivent.

Greeting CardsThe greeting cards will be on the display rack on the patio after church services as well as in the fellowship hall. All greeting cards are provided as a service to the congregation and are sold at cost. For more information, contact Cora Schroeder at 480-892-5153.

Alpha PregnancyIn keeping with their mission statement “Spread the Gospel while emphasizing the sanctity of life” Alpha Pregnancy has begun adding Bible story books when distributing diapers, for-mula, clothing, blankets, etc. to mothers-to-be. In support of this project, Ladies Guild is asking for donations of the small Bible story books. They are available at most of the dollar stores and Wal-Mart as well as other stores. We will keep a box in the Narthex for donations. Thank you for the support.
