Bus TransportationBus transportation is available for the summer day camps. You must be registered for camp to be eligible for bus transportation to and from camp. Bus routes are preset and you must select your stop from the choices provided. A full listing of stops will be posted on the website.

Extended Day 4:00 PM - 6:00 PMExtended day programming is offered at all summer day camp sites for an additional fee. Extended day will provide your children with supervision and additional camp activities from the end of the regular camp day. Extended day fee is $10/ per day.

Lunch ServiceDaily lunch is available at Day Camps for additional cost. Through a partnership with the Public Schools Food Services, healthy options include cold sandwiches, salads and bagels. The full menu is available on our web page. Families who receive free and reduced lunch services during the school year may extend this through the summer.

These camps comply with regulations set by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (105 CMR 4.30) and are licensed by the Brookline Health Department.

Financial Aid Deadline April 1, 2015A confidential application can be submitted, and if a hardship exists, the applicant may be granted a reduction in fee at the discretion of the Director. Many programs are self-supporting, which limits the amount of available aid per program. Applications must be received by April 1st. Camper to Counselor RatiosBrookline Recreation Summer Day Camps provide supervision in ratios to allow our counselors the opportunity to build relationships and provide each child with the attention he or she needs. Our ratios are as follows: Camp Kangaroo 1:5, Camp Gator 1:10, Camp Express 1:10.

Field TripsEach camp will partake in a series of field trips throughout the summer. Camp Kangaroo and Camp Gator will travel on one trip per session. Camp Express will travel on 2-3 trips per session. All field trips are included in the camp fees.

Summer Day Camps 8:30 AM - 4:00 PMThe Brookline Recreation Department offers three summer day camp programs to children ages 5-6, 7-9, and 10-13. Each camp provides various activities and pre-established schedules where children can build confidence, develop skills, make new friends, and have fun! Our camp gives children an experience that lasts a lifetime by providing challenging activities under the guidance of caring, well-trained staff members. Children take part in arts & crafts, non-competitive sports & games, aquatics activities, recreational play, and theme activities. Each camp will feature entertainment activities and field trips.

Leadership In Training (L.I.T.) 8:30 AM - 4:00 PMThe Leadership In Training Program (L.I.T.) is a unique experience for teens who are 14 & 15 entering the 9th and 10th grade. The L.I.T. program provides mature and team-oriented teens with numerous experiences, from learning how to teach different aspects of programming, participating in camp activities, and learning supervision skills with youth. They will have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and work with children directly while working along side other full time staff in the field. L.I.T.’s will be interviewed as a full time seasonal employee would, and their participation will be based upon the interview outcome.

Little Acorns 8:30 AM - 3:00 PMYoung naturalists can explore the natural areas of Brookline this summer. Little Acorns will have the opportunity to visit many of Brookline’s parks and sanctuaries and unravel the mysteries of the natural world through hands-on exploration, stories, arts & crafts, nature walks, and games. We will focus on local wildlife and their habitats. Each day will feature a different theme and a new location for campers to enjoy. Nature Camp is designed to encourage children to discover, enjoy and respect nature through personal experiences.

Sprouts 8:30 AM - 4:00 PMThis older group of naturalists will explore Brookline, focusing on the native plant life and varied habitats found in our natural areas. Sprouts will have the opportunity to visit many of Brookline’s parks and sanctuaries, and discover the growth cycle through hands-on exploration, stories, arts & crafts, nature walks, and games. Campers will also participate in the maintenance and harvesting of our community garden. Each day will feature a different theme and new location for campers to enjoy. Nature Camp is designed to encourage children to discover, enjoy and respect nature through personal experiences.

Junior Rangers 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM These rangers will experience nature based learning in the outdoors as they work towards earning a Junior Ranger badge. While visiting Brookline’s parks as well as exciting destinations such as Halibut Point and Purgatory Chasm State Parks, campers will be introduced to many different environmental topics, including: wildlife, habitats, ecology, biodiversity, and conservation. Rangers will also develop essential skills including orienteering and group-building. Junior Rangers Camp will provide a unique learning experience while encouraging the exploration and stewardship of our natural areas. This camp emphasizes hands-on, field-based, experiential learning, and includes daily excursions.

Adventurers 8:30 AM - 4:00 PMFor the more adventurous spirit, this program will begin with explorations in Brookline and then move beyond the town’s boundaries. Our oldest group of naturalists will expand their knowledge and skill set as they experience nature by being active in it! Excursions include hiking trips, canoeing, kayaking, and a ropes challenge course. Both weeks will culminate in an overnight camp-out Thursday night. This program emphasizes hands-on, field-based, experiential learning and aims to foster stewardship.

Junior Golf Players Clinics 9:00 AM - 3:00 PMThe five-day clinic is geared toward the young golfer ages 8-16 who is serious about improving their game. This program concentrates on improving golf skills, chipping, putting and course management. Practice techniques are covered and on-course playing instructions are included on a daily basis. Additionally, players will be paired in a competitive format of play the last day of the clinic.

Summer Swim Camp 9:00 AM - 3:00 PMComprehensive week-long camp for swimmers ages 8-18 who have competitive swim team experience and/or who have passed American Red Cross Level 4 and are proficient in all four competitive strokes. Includes dry-land training, two daily swim sessions, instructional videos and underwater video taping. Open swim is from 3:00P-5:00P Monday through Thursday, and swimmers 10 and over may participate without adult supervision. Please note: The camp runs from 9:00A -3:00P Monday through Thursday and 9:00A - 1:00P on Friday.

All staff must complete an extensive application and screening process which includes a written application, a personal interview, three reference checks, and checks with both the Criminal Offender Registry and Sex Offender Registry. All staff are certified in CPR and First Aid/AED. In addition, several camp staff hold higher certifications for Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguarding, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Pay is commensurate with experience.

Recreation Therapy/Summer ServicesThe Summer Day Camps are inclusive and aim to provide a positive recreation experience for children of any ability. Our summer camps offer participants opportunities to enjoytraditional recreation activities, as well as new experiences through leisure exploration. Adaptations can be made individually but most benefit the camp as a whole to support each child enrolled in the summer camp program.

Staff are well trained to ensure that all participants enjoy a safe, fun and memorable camp experience. One-on-one support staff is not offered at summer camp.

Recreation and the Public Schools of Brookline (PSB) collaborate to provide services for the children of Brooklineeach summer. Children attending a PSB program located at one of our day camp locations may also participate in the Recreation camps once their school program ends for a full day experience. Summer camp is not an extension of PSB services. Anyone choosing to participate in summer camp at the conclusion of their PSB program must register with Brookline Recreation.

Viking Sports conducts a fun variety of weekly multi-sports camps from June - September. Sports include dodgeball, capture the flag, soccer, flag football, floor hockey, and much more. Camp is held from 9:00am-3:00pm with options for early drop off from 8:00am-9:00am and late pick up from 3:00pm-6:00pm.

Puppetry Building and Design Camp: Discovering Secrets of Life 8:30 AM - 4:00 PMPuppetry is exercise for your imagination! Join Puppet Showplace Theatre’s team of professional puppeteers for a week of creative building and performance activities. Kids will learn how to design, construct, and manipulate puppet characters, focusing on different styles of puppetry each week. Campers willwork together to devise, rehearse, and present original performances. Along the way, kids will also learn theater and design skills such as voice acting, backstage etiquette, and the different applications of color and texture. Inaddition to puppetry activities, campers will enjoy fun recreational games and outings each day, including trips to the swimming pool and Larz Anderson Park. Each week of camp is different! Register for either week or sign up for both and save $50!
