Candy Page Controls <

A. Importing page references from an Excel BOQ or similar that has a page no. column

The page numbers can be up to 8 alphanumeric digits in length

1. Copy all relevant information from the Excel file.

2. To access the Bill Importer Document select Bill PrepàBill Importing.

This Technote will explain how to:

3. Paste the information that is on the clipboard, as per the normal procedure that you would follow when completing a Copy and Paste process on Word or excel, except right click on the Bill Importer document and Paste.

4. The data copied now needs to be identified in Candy by assigning column references

NB: the Candy “1- Page number” column must be assigned to the imported page no. column

The BOQ on Candy will automatically be paginated with the page references that have been identified by the Excel file.


If adding/ inserting new pages from Excel to an existing BOQ the dialogue box below will appear. If page numbers were specified they can be used, alternatively they can be ignored and the new pages added at the current cursor position or at the end of the bill.


B. Importing BOQ’s with no page reference column

The following procedure can be used to complete this process:

1. The same process will be required as per Section A- Step 1 2. The same process will be required as per Section A- Step 2. However the Page reference column cannot

be specified.

Although there may not be a column identifying the pages, a page layout could still be specified in the Excel file.

Once the BOQ has been imported into Candy, the pages can be adjusted to emulate the Excel file

To do this, a Page break marker needs be assigned to mark the start of new pages in the Candy BOQ

Right Click in the New Page Column cell and Set Page Break marks (+) where required.


This symbol should correspond to the first line of the new pages. Alternatively the actual page number can be used as a page break in lieu of the “+” to instantly assign the correct page numbers

After identifying and/or assigning the page breaks the bill needs to be re-paginated accordingly.

Select Toolsà Page Toolsà Paginate the bill


The following options exist for re-pagination

a. Refers to the amount of items per Bill page, you can set up to 99 items. This will not necessarily correspond to an A4 printed page

b. Page break at a specific header level number. Heading levels in Candy appear in the “L” column c. Break on item text – a specific, repetitive keyword that appears in the item no. column can be used to

create a page break. For example, every new page of the bill has an item no. “Item”, which was actually the column header for each new page. This rogue item can be deleted after the paging has been done by checking the Delete item box

d. Break on description text - the imported bill may have a repetitive carried forward or brought forward remark, keyword or similar in the description column that can automatically signal the start or end of a page. This remark or keyword generating items can also be deleted after the paging has been done by checking the Delete item box .

e. If you have any existing page break marks, tick the button to delete these and incorporate your changes.

NB: If no specific selections are made on this dialog, only the page break marks will be used to create pages, although this could be overridden by the number of items per page so it is suggested that the maximum items per page be set at 99.

C. Creating or inserting new pages on an existing BOQ

Method 1- using the Tools menu

On any Candy BOQ document select Tools à Page Toolsà Insert Pages

Position the cursor at the required new page position. Below a new page will be inserted after page 3 and above page 4.

Select . The Page Insertion Dialogue box will appear and a new page 3.1 will be created by default. More pages can be inserted at this position if required by entering the number of pages to insert


Method 2- using the button

The same process can be followed as per Method 1 after selecting the button.


D. Deleting pages on an existing BOQ

Select Tools à Page tools à Delete pages

Select the page range to be deleted

Use the drop down boxes to choose the START page and END page In this example only one page is being deleted, so the same page will be used as START and END.

NOTE that if a page has numbering eg. 1.21 it will be changed to a full page number,i.e. 2 if you select Renumber the pages following the last page deleted box.


E. Renumbering pages

Various options exist to change the numbering of a page or a range of pages.

To alter a number of one page the following method can be used:

On the Column layout add the Column 1.3 New Page Number.

On the first line of the page that you wish to change, type the required New Page Number. In this instance we are going to change the 1st page to page A1.

Select ToolsàPage Tools à Paginate the Bill and press OK.


To alter a range of pages the following method can be used:

Select the Tools àPage Toolsà Renumber a range of pages

From the drop down boxes select the range of pages that you want to change, for this example the range of pages that will be changed is Page 1 to Page 3.

The new page number will be A2 and the number increment will be 2.

This means that the 2nd page will be A4, with the 3rd page A6.



F. Moving or re-shuffling pages

Select and by using the Bubble Page Up and Bubble page down controls you can move the

desired page up or down .


G. Moving or re-shuffling a range of pages

To move a range of pages select Toolsà Page toolsàCopy Bill pages

Make the designated changes and apply the relevant checks. Input the Source and the Destination pages.

After the pages have been copied, the original pages can be manually deleted. This method could also be used to duplicate pages.
