On behalf of the Egyptian Association of Vascular biology & Atherosclerosis (EAVA) and

CardioRisk scientific board, Let me welcome you all in CardioRisk 2017 that will be held in

Hurghada Egypt 22-25 November 2017.

The meeting this year will not only cover lipidology science but, in addition, will extend to cover

many subjects related to CV risk factors especially hypertension and DM with eminent faculty.

Looking forward to seeing you all, and let me wish you an enjoyable and fruitful meeting.

CardioRisk CME activities started 2011, with a series of accredited educational meetings all over Egypt discussing assessment and management of cardiovascular risk in view of the different national and international guidelines.

The meeting this year will celebrate the fiundation of the familial hypercholesterolemia research forum (FHRF) in Egypt and the initiation of FH observational study in collaboration with the European Atherosclerosis Society

In addition to the cyclic CME activities, the annual congress and the ongoing Egyptian risk factor and lipid project, EAVA is initiating the CardioRisk research project including a national observational study and a promoting program supporting researches addressing cardiovascular risk and preventive strategies in the community.

CardioRisk 2017 scientific program will cover the recent updates in atherosclerosis, vascular biology and cardiovascular prevention by eminent speakers. CardioRisk scientific committee has the pleasure to invite you to participate and share with us the science of CardioRisk 2017 as well as the beauty of Hurghada, Egypt.

International Guests Speakers

Andreas Zirlik - Germany

Prof. Dr. Andreas Zirlik is Deputy Medical Director of the Department of Cardiology and Angiology I of the Heart Center of Freiburg University in Germany. He practices interventional cardiology and interventional hypertensiology and heads the heart failure and heart transplantation service. He also leads a research laboratory with a major interest in inflammatory mechanisms in atherogenesis and at the interface of cardiovascular, metabolic disease, and thrombosis.

Gerald Tomkin - Ireland Gerald Tomkin was born in Dublin Ireland and studied Medicine in Trinity College Dulin. He continued his post graduate trainijng in the UK and the USA before returning to take up a position as a consultant physician/Endocrinologist in the Adelaide and Meath Hospitals/Trinity College. His Research interests have focussed on diabetes, dyslipidaemiaand obesity. He is past vice president of the European Association for the study of diabetes, past president of Association of Physicians of Great Britain and Ireland and is currentlypresident of Diabetes Ireland.

Michal Vrablik - Czech Republic Michal Vrablik M.D., Ph.D. is currently an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague, the Czech Republic. He is the chairman of the Czech Atherosclerosis Society, served as a member of the Executive Committee of the European Atherosclerosis Society between 2012 and 2016 and, also, a member of the board of the Czech Society of Internal Medicine and the board of the Working group of preventive cardiology of the Czech Society of Cardiology.

Stephan Von Haehling - UK Stephan Von Haehling is a consultant cardiologist and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Department of Cardiology and Pneumology at the University Medical Center Göttingen, Germany. He obtained his MD at the Institute of Immunology at Charité Medical School, Berlin, Germany. His PhD was awarded by Imperial College, London, UK after he completed studies into inflammatory mechanisms of heart failure at the National Heart and Lung Institute in London. Dr. von Haehling has authored more than 200 original research papers, review articles, and editorials and serves on several editorial boards, including Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, ESC Heart Failure, International Journal of Cardiology, Clinical Science, Expert Opinion on Investigational Drugs and Archives of Medical Science. Dr von Haehling is Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology. His research interests include the pathophysiology of heart failure, muscle wasting, biomarkers, and novel treatments.
