Caring for Kansas Kids Collectively Simulcast Meet Our Speakers Dr. David Anderson Safe Families About the Speaker: Dr. David Anderson is a Child Psychologist, church planting pastor and Executive Director of Lydia Home Association and Safe Families for Children. Safe Families is a national movement of the Church in 108 sites in the US, 40 in the UK and in Canada and Hong Kong. He won the Peter Drucker Top National Award for Non-profit Innovation and has been elected as an Ashoka Fellow (global social entrepreneur) and a Prime Mover Fellow (national social movement leader). He served as adjunct faculty at Wheaton College (Doctoral Program) and Trinity International University. He’s been married to Karen for 34 years and they have 2 grown children and a 13 year old son. La Rochelle Young DCF Faith-based and Community Initiatives About the Speaker: La Rochelle Young is a political strategist, consensus builder and innovative government affairs thought-leader. She is a strong negotiator with excellent communication skills and used those skills to co-draft six bills signed into law and helped organize three Capitol Rotunda ceremonies while working as a Senior Policy Advisory in the United States Senate. La Rochelle expertly led collaboration efforts in Kansas helping to create a prison mentoring program and identifying cost savings for the state’s prison system. She currently serves as the Deputy Director for the Faith-Based and Community Initiatives for the Kansas Department for Children and Families. In this capacity, La Rochelle leads strategies for recruiting Kansas foster families for children in need. Residing in Kansas, La Rochelle enjoys travelling with her daughter and volunteering her time reviewing grant applications for non-profit organizations and participating in her local faith community. Tate Williams Care Portal About the Speaker: Tate Williams is the State Director for CarePortal in Kansas and Missouri. Tate is driven by Jesus’ vision for the Kingdom where those on the margins become those in positions of privilege and power. Tate is often talked about by those he works with as a passionate advocate, a master connector and an excellent communicator. In addition to being part of the team that developed and launched CarePortal, Tate has acted as a consultant and connector for a variety of initiatives including Protective Homes, YOUTHrive, the Strengthening Families Program and most recently Safe Families for Children. Tate and his wife Dr. Abby Williams met at Wheaton College in Illinois where they both graduated with a degree in Applied Health Science. Together, they now live with their 4 children in the historic, vibrant and beautiful Pendleton Heights Neighborhood in Kansas City, MO where they enjoy life with their closest friends.

Dr. Evelyn HillAvenue of Life

About the Speaker: Dr. Evelyn Hill has served on the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education from 2009 to 2017. She values education and believes every child has the right to receive a quality education. Dr. Hill believes we need to prepare this generation of students for the global workforce which is very different from the workforce of yesterday. Technology is changing rapidly therefore education should be changing rapidly. Dr. Hill has been employed with Avenue of Life since 2015. There she has served as the Equipping Center Program Director, where her responsibilities included but were not limited to scheduling and recruiting teachers and volunteers for educational programming for the community in areas of finance, GED, exercise, nutrition and self-defense. In this role she also provided curriculum for a summer tutoring program for students ages 4 – 12 years with emphasis on reading and math. In her current roll as the Community Engagement Director she speaks on behalf of Avenue of Life to community stakeholders such as the Unified Government of WYCO and BPU, churches, businesses, schools and other non-profit organizations. She also participates in the fund development side of the organization. Dr. Hill has served in many volunteer positions over the years including but not limited to; the Mayor’s Diversity Council, KCK Chamber of Commerce board of directors, Consultant to the Mayor of Richmond Virginia for Youth Involvement in City Administration, Leadership 2000, Keeler’s Women’s Center , Unified Government of Wyandotte County, Joyce Williams Center (Domestic Violence Shelter), The 7 Project, Wyandotte County United Way, The Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council and the Mayor’s Clergy Roundtable. Dr. Hill is married to Pastor Robert Hill. They have four sons and one daughter. They also have eleven grand-children.

About the Speaker: Barry Feaker is a lifelong Topeka resident and a graduate of Washburn University. He has served as the Executive Director of Topeka Rescue Mission Ministries since 1986. Barry provides executive oversight to the nine divisions of TRM Ministries, which include Shelter Services for the homeless; Food Services for the hungry; Street Reach for the unsheltered; community-wide Distribution Services for food and household items; two retail/job readiness sites; a preschool children’s equipping center for homeless children called Children’s Palace; neighborhood empowerment and transformation initiatives for homeless prevention and community health called NET Reach; human trafficking rescue, education and collaboration called Restore Hope; a youth development and missionary equipping program called Doxazo Ministries; and, Education and Supportive Services for career readiness, biblical leadership development, mentoring and community development. In 2012 Barry authored the book, “In Darkness, a Light Still Shines,” based on his experiences during his first 26 years in ministry. Through all areas of service, Barry is dedicated to advocating for the needs of the homeless and impoverished populations, while working to continually better the overall Topeka/Shawnee County Community. In 2018, Barry and other TRM staff launched Freedom Now USA in response to the pervasiveness of human trafficking in the Topeka Community and the United States.

About the Speaker: Jared Broyles is a veteran journalist with more than 15 years experience in local television news. He worked as a producer, reporter and anchor. Most recently, he spent four years as the evening anchor of the NBC, ABC and Fox affiliate in Topeka. Broyles has long had a heart for foster care and those waiting to be adopted. He’s currently raising up The Call to Care Initiative--a volunteer organization that seeks to mobilize churches in Kansas to provide a future and a hope for children in our state’s foster care system.
