Hard to believe we are almost at the end of 2019, with just weeks to go before OZ Minerals delivers one of Australia's largest copper projects. Carrapateena released a video, to showcase our project, the lifestyle and our people to the world. It’s available here if you haven't seen it, type this link into your web browser and check out the video https://youtu.be/1QDI7cr7wOU

Carrapateena Province This is a big year for the Carrapateena project as it approaches first concentrate production. Underground development continues to progress well and remains on schedule for first concentrate production in November 2019. We now also have over 180,000 tonnes of ore stockpiled, ready to bring the processing plant online. Bulk earthworks for the Minerals Processing Plant and Non-Processing Infrastructure are now complete. Mine infrastructure has been continuing throughout the year, with many milestones being complete. Key construction for the quarter includes ongoing underground mine development and construction of the Minerals Processing Plant, non-process infrastructure, power line, bore fields, underground materials handling system and the tailings storage facility. Under-ground infrastructure for crushing plants and conveyors are being installed with work crews growing bigger in the underground process. Downer Mining is the underground contractor that has been getting the decline and mining infrastructure in place and ore to surface.

Things are really ramping up, and it's exciting to get closer to transport materials through the Tjati decline!

The high voltage power line for the Carrapateena site is now 100% complete. Commissioning of the line to switch over to mains power is being finalised.

There is still construction of the major power line for the Hill 2 Hill project from Port Augusta to Prominent Hill.

Tailings Storage Facility construction is at completion for stage 1 of the tailings wall.

The Southern Access Road upgrade is complete for increased safety and first haulage of concentrate.

The Northern wellfield installation is nearing completion to align site water supply with the mine processing plant ramp up.

‘Nganampa palyanku kanyintjaku’ Keeping the future good for all of us Carrapateena Partnering Management Committee EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING UPDATE Carrapateena continues to increase the number of Kokatha people employed on the project, either directly with OZ Minerals or with contractors performing work onsite. Kokatha people are employed across a wide variety of work packages from underground mining to camp facility operations. New contractors to site are doing a good job of prioritising Kokatha employment and engaging with the community.

*Nb: The above numbers exclude Kokatha heritage workers. Kokatha’s own Aboriginal Employment Advisor- Jonathon Fatt-Clifton is based in Port Augusta. He is there to help work with schools, training organisations and other groups to deliver work readiness initiatives and jobs for all Kokatha members. Jonathon is there to help the community understand what is needed for them to be involved in the work force.

Carrapateena camp services provider, ISS, has a Pre-Employment Program for Camp-catering employment opportunities. The first rounds have been a success. 6 Kokatha members graduated the ISS course to learn how to work in camp services and gain the experience and confidence for the workforce. The program is a joint Kokatha Aboriginal Corporation and TAFE SA initiative. The course was purpose-built in 2017 after the Kokatha Aboriginal Corporation identified a shortage of skilled workers available to work on the Carrapateena Mine site.

‘Nganampa palyanku kanyintjaku’ Keeping the future good for all of us Carrapateena Partnering Management Committee Carrapateena continues to present employment opportunities for Kokatha people. If anyone you know is looking for work or wants to move closer to home, please Jonathon Fatt-Clifton in the Kokatha office.

CULTURAL HERITAGE AND CULTURAL AWARENESS

Heritage Monitoring All major construction undertaken on the Carrapateena project has had Kokatha representation to help with identification of any cultural sites or artefacts to be avoided. All contractors follow a Land Disturbance Permit that is required and approved only on the basis that the works adhere to the Aboriginal Heritage Act and the Environmental Approvals. By having a Land Disturbance Permit procedure, OZ Minerals has reduced the risk of impacts on the environment and heritage through the construction phase. This process is regulated through government agencies and the Kokatha Heritage team. Lore and Culture Committee Kokatha Aboriginal Corporation recently formed a Lore and Culture Sub-Committee to provide information and advice to the Corporation on matters of Kokatha Lore and Culture. The group currently consists of 4 Kokatha female Elders and 4 Kokatha male Elders. The elected co-chairs of the sub-committee are Glen Wingfield and Barbara Amos. At its first meeting in September, this group also committed to the following priorities:

1. Language retention 2. Maintaining cultural heritage 3. Developing and delivering cultural respect training 4. Establishing a Men’s and a Women’s Group 5. Engaging and developing a youth group 6. Supporting Kokatha members to attend Men’s and Women’s business 7. Providing advice and input to KAC stakeholders 8. Developing a Kokatha Lore and Culture strategy

The next meeting of the group in October will focus on the Woomera Heritage Management Plan. Kokatha woman, Melinda Forrest, 23 (Picture on right), recently commenced a twelve month workplace traineeship and Certificate 3 in Business Administration; she has been working in the Kokatha head office, in Port Augusta since 2018. “This is a good start for me, I would like to go as far as I can, learn some more skills and go onto other things,” said Ms Forrest. “It’s great working for Kokatha, I feel proud that I can help others too,” she said. Melinda was also recently appointed to the position of Kokatha Lore and Culture Sub-Committee Executive Officer. “Melinda is a valued member of our KAC staff team” said Cate Ballantyne, General Manager. “She regularly takes on new workplace challenges, she is a fast learner and a hard worker. We look forward to her skills and experience growing with our rapidly growing corporation.”

HEALTH SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT

National Diabetes week took place from 14-20 July 2019. During this time, OZ Minerals was offering diabetes screening at site to assess if individuals have diabetes and if so, to what extent. An estimated 500,000 Australians are living with silent, undiagnosed type 2 diabetes. Untreated, can damage your body, and for many, it will only be diagnosed late.  Diabetes complications such as eye damage or heart trouble can have a major impact on lives.

Research has shown that many people underestimate the seriousness of type 2 diabetes, despite it being the leading cause of blindness in working age Australians, limb amputations, kidney failure and heart attacks.

You can use the online tool and complete the AUSDRISK Assessment at https://www.diabetesaustralia.com.au/risk-calculator or see your local doctor. All Carrapateena site employees are encouraged to visit the Carrapateena medic on any issues or concerns.

Figure 2: Chart of Diabetes effects and symptoms Nothing is more significant or has a wider-reaching impact than the safety of our people. Nothing shows more, what we stand for as a company, than having everyone able to go home to your families at the end of the day. Aboriginal Contact Officer OZ Minerals Carrapateena is committed to ensuring our people perform work safely, in a manner that maximises your potential and fosters a culture of high performance in line with How We Work Together. On 27 August 2019, an email was sent to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Carrapateena employees seeking expressions of interest to become an Aboriginal Contact Officer (ACO). ACOs assist in breaking down any perceived barriers in communications so there is a better understanding of ATSI employees’ work and / or grievances – enabling seamless access to established company processes.

‘Nganampa palyanku kanyintjaku’ Keeping the future good for all of us Carrapateena Partnering Management Committee BUSINESS The continued commitment by Kokatha and OZ Minerals towards the shared value partnering business model has resulted in new opportunities. These are currently being worked through with the Business Enterprise Committee and Kokatha new Business and Development Manager, Giac Consalvo. Kokatha Business Development is working with ISS looking for opportunities within the camp services. These opportunities include a small services business, and involvement in the supply chain for purchases at Carrapateena that could lead to business in the wider Upper Spencer Gulf.

Image 7: Kokatha Mining Services Water truck Community Consultation

In June, OZ Minerals in conjunction with Global Maintenance Upper Spencer Gulf (GMUSG) and our contracting partners, held a Community and Local Supplier Information Update in Port Augusta. Over 120 local suppliers and community members from around the Upper Spencer Gulf area attended, with presentations delivered on Carrapateena, Prominent Hill and the Hill 2 Hill project.

It was great to catch-up face to face with local stakeholders. It is important for OZ Minerals to harness the opportunities to use local procurement for services and equipment to support the Upper Spencer Gulf.

To unlock value with all stakeholders, the How we Work Together principles were developed. This is part of the strategy that makes OZ Minerals a modern mining company. The principles align with the partnering of Kokatha and OZM Carrapateena and is used as a reference so that the goals that we set out can be achieved.
