fall protection and rescue

is serious business

Imagine yourself slowly climbing to repair a tower on top of the John Hancock Building in 40 knotwinds — 130 stories above Chicago with the world rushing beneath you, including jet aircraft,orBalancing on an eighteen-inch walkway as you inspect the structure of the Mackinaw Island Bridge, ahalf mile over the Straights of Mackinaw, with unsuspecting miniature barges and tourists passingbelow,or Crawling through tunnels under the streets of New York City, daylight overhead, but darkness andmoisture surrounding you, as you try to locate a break in miles and miles of electrical cable.

There are no margins for error.Every day, workers throughout the world risk their lives to build the structures we live in, work in, pass over, and communicate from. They are people like you and I and they deserve the best protection available. Thesesituations are out there, and late in the day when you are tired and your foot slips or you are in a harshenvironment that is anything but clean, wearing the BEST means you'll make it home that night. The BESTmeans that every product produced and delivered meets or exceeds the toughest standards required by theOccupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) aswell as the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). It means that these products and their testing is verifiedby a qualified third party, such as the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI); designed and produced in accordancewith ISO 9001 certification standards, and backed with product liability, support and training.

We build the BEST. We are DBI/SALA

RestraintRestraint systems prevent you from reaching anarea where a free fall could occur. Leading edgeroof work typically calls for a restraint system.

For body support you can use either a Delta-No-Tangle™ full body harness or a body beltthat connects to a rope or web lanyard con-necting component. For secure anchorage, restraint systems use an anchorage connec-tor such as an anchorage plate with a D-ring ora support structure that connects to the lanyardwith a carabiner or snap hook.

SuspensionUse a suspension system to support and holdyou without any possibility of a free fall whileyou are being raised or lowered. Boatswain'schair jobs, such as painting or window wash-ing, are common examples.

DBI/SALA suspension systems provide totalsafety with the Delta No-Tangle™ full bodyharness and a workseat or boatswain’s chairas body support components. The con-necting component is generally arescue-positioning device (RPD), FiskDescender™ or winch. The anchorageconnector can be a carabiner or tie-offadapter; with anchorage from a tripod, davit arm or support structure.

RescueRescue systems are designed to raise or loweryou to safety in an emergency without anypossibility of a free fall. Rescue systems aretypically used in confined space work, such asunderground utility projects or tank mainte-nance.

For total body support, DBI/SALA rescuesystems use a Delta No-Tangle™ full bodyharness and/or a rescue cradle connected to awinch, self-retracting lifeline, rescue positioningdevice or a Rollgliss® system anchorageconnector. That, in turn, is connected directlyto an anchorage I-beam, to the ground or toan anchorage connector such as a tripod, davit arm, carabiner or tie-off adapter.

The Kevlar® harness is appropriate for any spark producing environment.

Specialty full body harnesses have extra features to add to your comfort and safety in unique situations. For example, if you arewelding or in a potentially explosive environment, you want the protectionof a Kevlar® harness. If you are working on a tower structure, you needspecial accessories to help reduce fatigue and give you a rest, along with D-rings to hold your tools and keep them out of your way.

DBI/SALA will work with you to find the right specialty combination for yourapplication. We haven’t missed yet!

As an added defense against incendiary sparking while working in potentially explosive environments or near flammable materials, choose theprotection that comes from fitting your DBI/SALA harnesses with non-con-ductive, non-sparking PVC coated hardware. When it comes to your safety, demand the best!

Kevlar® full body harnesses are tough! They featureflame-resistant 100% Kevlar® 29 webbing with a 800˚ Fchar temperature and limited resistance to 1000˚ F.They are also exceptionally resistant to cuts.

Our dorsal web loop harness, connectedto your lanyard, limits the amount ofmetal on the harness for reduced electrical conductivity. Or use the harnesswith our web-loop lanyards for increasedsafety. These harnesses are lightweight, comfortable and an excellent choice for utility workers. Also, for maximum protection, many harness models incorporate PVC coated non-conductive,non-sparking hardware.

Unlike ALL other manufacturers’ programs which “predict” systemloads, DBI/SALA’s software measures actual fallsin “real time,” based on thousands of drop tests. It provides detailed information for use by aCertified Installer to custom-design each systemspecifically to the site. This unique computer soft-ware not only calculates the loading imposed oneach system component and anchorage point, but also the arresting force and fall clearanceneeded by the worker. These calculations are critical and must be based on actual test data toensure worker safety, not guesses or predictions.

Unique Sayfglida®

FeaturesSayfglida® is the world’s most advanced horizontal lifelinesystem available, providing unrivaled levels of protection.Thesystem utilizes a patented Sayflink® sleeve that slides easilyover intermediate anchorage brackets and around cornerbrackets hands-free, with no manipulation required by theuser. Install the system above, even with, or below the user.Total length is unlimited for ultimate versatility.

Detachable Sayflink® Sleeve:The patented Sayflink® Sleeve, when attached to a harnessand lanyard/self-retracting lifeline, ensures a user-positivecontact with the Sayfglida® system because of its ability tobypass all intermediate brackets and corner units.Chamfered helical surfaces provide smooth passage alongthe system with no manipulation required by the user(hands-free operation!). Built-in rollers assist in theeffortless movement, and it can be easily attached or removed anywhere along thesystem. Constructed of stainless steel and with no moving parts, the Sayflink® Sleeve isideal for harsh environments.A non-detachable model for use with in-line entry/exitunits is also available.

Shock Absorber:For structures limited in strength, the Sayfglida® system canbe configured with our in-line Zorbit™ energy absorber tolimit forces and help control the end anchor loads.

Corner Bracket:Passage around curves is achievedthrough use of a Corner Bracket,a bent tube attached to an interme-diate bracket to properly position the cable. It allows the Sayflink® Sleeve to bypasscorners hands-free without the user detaching from the lifeline.

Swageless End Termination:For final assembly, one end of the system is pre-swaged in the factory; the other is fixed into position with a stainless steelswageless termination using small hand tools. The swageless end fitting eliminatesthe need for a cumbersome swaging machine, saving time and money. Onceinstalled, the system is then tensioned using the in-line tensioner.

Intermediate Brackets:Manufactured from stainless steel, the Multi-Dimensional Intermediate Brackets are designed forinstallation in a variety of orientations above, evenwith, or below the user. This versatility ensures theSayflink® Sleeve will always smoothly bypass thebracket, whatever the particular height of the cable installation. More importantly, should a fall occur, the brackets are designed not only to swivel on the anchoringbolt but also to deform in shape. This helps dissipate the energy generated by a falland ensures minimal shock loads imposed on the user, limits line deflection, andallows for a reduction in anchorage point strength requirements.

Modular DavitArm/Base AssemblyBecause you told us it had to be readily accessibleand easy to use, we built a modular system that fits in two bags with no piece longer than 4 ft. long, easily fitting into a vehicle locker. The bags are lightenough for two men to carry to the entry hole andassemble in less than 5 minutes. Safely connect up and then pivot to the entry hole.

The Davit Rescue System is constructed of anodizedaluminum, zinc-coated steel and stainless to maximize strength, minimize weight and resist corrosion. Computer-aided design and analysisallowed us to eliminate unnecessary bulk by takingadvantage of the newest manufacturing techniques. The added style was a bonus.

You also asked for an adaptable system. One of ourdesign philosophies was universality. The mast andboom readily adapt to interchangeable bases, givingyou a totally efficient, mix and match system. Forexample, install permanent bases on a series oftanks and move the davit arm from one to another;or use a wall mount for one application; the portablebase for another.

• Arm rotates 120 degreesand locks into desiredposition allowing easyaccess and removal forentrant.

• The arm’s reach canbe adjusted to 12inches, 18 inches or24 inches to keep thelifeline centered overthe opening and foradditional clearance.

• The davit arm parts fit into two carrying bags designed to fit intothe lockers/storage compartmentsof rescue and utility vehicles. Forspeediest transport to the confinedspace site, use a two-person crewcarrying the bags together, frontand back, one end in each hand.

Side by side pulleys withlock-down pins provideproper cable routing andsmooth operation whenlifting loads.

Integrated anchor ring provides yet anotherauxiliary or back-up connection point for aself retracting lifeline orrope grab system.

Reflective labeling on arm and legs improves visibility in low-light conditions.

Built-in lock-down screw allows the user to fix themast pole into place eliminating rotation when using with fixed bases.

Complete user labelingincludes, identification, warnings, and set-upinstructions.

Portable base’s width can be adjustedto 48 inches, 54 inches or 60 inches tofit various hole/entrance sizes.

Four independentleveling feetadjust up to 9inches for roughuneven terrain.

Stainless steel detent pins lock all components in place making assembly/ disassembly quick and easy tool-free.

Two SALA Quick-Connect brackets provide primary and back-up mounting points for mechanicaldevices. Each will accommodate a personnel winch, materials hoist or 3-way self retracting lifeline.
