God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with

the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation, he came down from

heaven, (all bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incar-nate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suf-fered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right

hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the proph-ets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic

Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of

the dead and the life of the world to come.

Amen.

Prayers of the Faithful

CALLED TO BE HOLY. With this Sunday we begin Ordinary Time. The readings tell us about God’s relationship with Israel and John the Baptist’s relationship with Jesus. Israel’s relationship with God is so close, so intimate, that it is through Israel that God’s “salvation [will] reach to the ends of the

earth” (Isaiah 49:6). But we know from John the Baptist that for Israel to accomplish God’s will, it must also recognize that Jesus is the Son of God. During these weeks we also get to know Jesus. We begin to understand more deeply our relationship to Jesus and what that relationship means for us, who are “called to be holy” (1 Corinthians 1:2).

Here is a continuation of the descriptions of charisms.

Encouragement Empowered by the Holy Spirit, some persons are called to stand beside other people who are in need and bring comfort, counsel and encouragement so they feel helped. To exercise the gift of

encouragement is to call forth the best from others. This gift involves helping others to be more dedicated in living out their faith, bolstering them up when they are discouraged or downhearted and challenging them to see the goals to which God calls them. • I use words of comfort and counsel to nurture others • I focus on the individual rather than a group • Strengths include listening, talking, comforting,

counselling • People have told me I bring comfort and help people

grow. Evangelism To exercise the gift of evangelism is to perceive and accept God’s call to lead others in their spirituality, and to be instrumental in acknowledging God’s grace and authority in the life of the church. This gift involves being able to lead others wisely and compassionately and training others in spiritual matters. Evangelism includes a combination of wisdom, discernment, leadership and teaching. • Shares the faith in a way that draws others to be

disciples • Drawn to non-Christians and can easily be friends • Serve as a witness to Christ through deeds and words

Faith The Holy Spirit provides individuals with extraordinary confidence in God’s promises, power and presence so that they can take heroic stands for the future of God’s work in the church and faith community. This gift involves a healthy prayer life, sensitivity to the will of God, and a firm trust that God will come through, even when there is no concrete evidence. • Exceptional trust in the love, power and provision of

God • Confident God will provide for their needs • Complete freedom to act due to one’s trust in God

God is in the details.” Nowhere is this saying more true than when applied to the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Miracle upon miracle in layered is this image that speaks so eloquently to the people of South American. Many people have heard of Our Lady of Guadalupe, but few

people know her story. In this talk, speaker and catechist Luis Soto (who himself was born and raised in Mexico) shares the little-known history and life-changing importance of Mary's appearance to a peasant man named Juan Diego, and the miraculous image she left behind. Loved by millions (including St. John Paul II), Our Lady of Guadalupe is a patron and example of how to share the Gospel with the whole world.

Care & Share January 26, 2020

Your donations may be placed in the pull-out cabinet Bin in Vollkommer Bell Tower on any day of the week, but especially on Care & Share

Sunday!

During the month of December our parishioners donated 1,177 lbs of food nearly half (488 lbs) was provided by the Scouts in the form of fruit

baskets. Thank you for your generosity!!!

These parishioners are celebrating Birthdays this week. If you see them, don’t forget to extend your

Best Wishes for a Blessed Day!

Is anyone among you sick? They should summon the presbyters of the church, to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person and the Lord will

raise them up. If they have committed any sins, they will be forgiven." (James 5:14)

In the sacrament we pray that the sick be healed in body, in mind and in spirit. The mission of the Church is to do what Jesus did. Healing was essential to the mission of the disciples. If you are experiencing the effects of illness, advanced age, preparing for surgery and seek the healing power of the sacrament you are encouraged to ask Father Dennis to celebrate the Anointing of the Sick with you. You or a family member can contact the parish office at (803) 345-3962 or call Father’s cell phone at (843) 834-5447.

The Adoration Chapel is available for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with the use of a code to enter the Chapel. The code is available through the Parish Office. Please make sure you refer to the Adoration Chapel Etiquette posted in the Chapel, on the Parish’s Facebook Page and on the Parish’s

website. Become a partner in our parish goal of year round Perpetual Adoration of Our Lord. Visit our Parish website at www.ollchapin.org and click on “Adoration PRO” at the top of the page. Questions, contact Administrator, Mike Weinzapfel at [email protected]
