Something we will all have in

common : the core

How do you think stu-

dents feel around FCAT

crunch time? Some students

get nervous and anxious.

While other students think

“this is easy as pie!”

Students shouldn’t get

overly nervous. They should

be confident in what they

know. One thing students

are expected to do before

FCAT is read !

Passing the FCAT with

out consistently reading is

like expecting to win a 20

mile marathon with no prep-

aration.

Another key to passing

the FCAT is having a

healthy balanced

breakfast in the

morning. Get your

body used to eating

healthy breakfasts

at least a week be-

fore the test. A bal-

anced breakfast will

keep you awake and

alert.

Last but not least,

students should wake up

in the morning saying

“I CAN DO THIS!” A posi-

tive mind set can only help

you. By: Beryl Meyers

For the first time in

Florida they are introduc-

ing a new standard for all

grades, known as The

Common Core Standards.

Common Core Stand-

ards in Florida have been

announced to start in the

school year of 2014-

2015. Common Core will

allow consistent and clear

understanding of what

their students need to

learn, and what they need

to do to help them.

Mr. Gil expresses his

opinion about Common

Core.

“I have mixed feelings

about Common Core. On

one hand I feel that na-

tional standards could

benefit the country’s

overall educational pro-

gress. On the other hand,

not all school districts

have equal resources

or challenges”.

“Common Core will

affect my classes because I

will have to alter my les-

sons to ensure the Com-

mon Core Standards are

met.” “I think the new

standards will be challeng-

ing for both students and

teachers at first, but as

teachers become better

trained on Common Core

Standards and students get

used to the changes, we

will see achievement im-

prove”.

Common Core for

math classes are made so

that they focus on numbers

and Geometry, as for Lan-

guage Art’s it’s focused

with research and evidence

based rigor questions inter-

nationally benchmarked.

He gives a special

thanks to his friend

Solange, for helping him

calm down “until the

teachers and adults came

to the rescue.” Nasir was

asked if it was a good or

bad experience to be

flown out of school

grounds on a helicopter.

In which he replies with

“It was a good experience

for a bad reason. It would

have been cool to go

without a bad ankle.”

Nasir stayed in the hos-

pital for 3-4 days. He com-

pleted a surgery and tells

that “when they pulled

the metal pen out it hurt

He later had

to put on a

cast which

Nasir Gladden flew out

of Country Club Middle on

a helicopter because of a

severe injury during school

hours.

Gladden is in the 7th

grade, he has PE for the

last period of the day. The

injury, he states happened

“in the field playing foot-

ball.” He adds that a bone

in his ankle popped. He

says he “was in a lot of

pain. It hurt so much.”

The reactions were dras-

tic. People began to cry at

the look of the scene.

“They ran up to me and

constantly asked me if I

was okay.” Gladden says.

His father’s reaction was

the complete opposite. His

father thought it was “no

biggie.” When he first wit-

nessed the injury, he didn’t

think much of it. “He was

surprised.” Nasir laughs.

The breakfast champion

Highlights

Don’t forget the syrup Schedule changes

Has your mouth ever wa-

tered for delicious food? The

CCMS staff’s did at the holi-

day breakfast on December

19!

It was all possible thanks to

Ms. Brunson, CCMS’s home

economics teacher. Ms.

Brunson with the help of her

best students made the deli-

cious breakfast possible. Mrs.

Brunson, culinary students and

administrators were on their

feet and helping out with food

and decora-

tions since

6:30am.

They prepared eggs, grits,

fish, sausages, and pancakes!

The pancakes weren’t just regu-

lar pancakes; they were profes-

sionally cooked by a staff work-

er from I Hop! How cool is

that? To top it all off, the stu-

dents served water, orange

juice, coffee, cranberry juice,

and milk. Don’t forget the ice!

The breakfast began at

8:10am, teachers and staff all

sat down and wished each other

a happy holiday before Winter

Break begin. They

chatted and had a

cheerful time, all

while eating their

delicious breakfast.

Students In Country Club

Middle School have been

experiencing

many schedule

changes. Some

teachers have

left the school

and some clas-

ses have been closed.

Jonathan, who is 13

years old is very happy that

he got his schedule

changed. He is extremely

eager to have a new expe-

rience.

In his third peri-

od ,which was his intensive

reading

class is now

band , and

every one

that was in

his third

period, had their schedules

changed too. Two people

had there schedules

changed to PE, and the rest

to band. How did you feel

about your schedule chang-

es? By Dennys Raymond

CCMS Spirit Team

is a very hyper/fun

group. It looks like

their leader Mrs.

Knowles is doing a

good job at keeping it

that way. All of the

spirit team members

are friends, and they

love performing and

dancing as a team.

There last perfor-

mance was the

Christmas show. They

performed in the

homecoming dance

as

well.

Mrs. Reyes, is an hon-

ors math teacher at Coun-

try Club Middle School.

She has also been inter-

ested in math for almost

15 years. “When I was in

middle school actually, in

7th grade a lot of my

classmates asked me to

tutor them, that is when I

realized that I might be a

math teacher later in the

future”.

Mrs. Reyes went to Mi-

ami Dade Community

College to learn English.

A language barrier did

not stop Mrs. Reyes from

reaching her dreams.

She’s been working as a

teacher for seven years.

She says it is “it is great

to work with the students,

they help with my lan-

guage”. By: Marco Rivas

The square root of awesome

They also have coach

who is in charge of the

choreography. The spir-

it team environment is

really chaotic, which

includes a lot of locking

and stomping.

They report that

their coach is very bal-

anced. Not only is she

skilled and fun but also

very strict and serious.

CCMS wouldn't be the

same without the sprit

team.

On March 10, 2014 a Breakfast Club Champion

club was randomly selected to win a 55 dollar gift

card. A 7th grade student named Camren Gillard

from CCMS. Camren Gillard

was selected out of thousands

of students in Miami Dade

County.

After a heavy thanksgiving meal around 2

in the morning a family wakes up to go to Dolphin

Mall. They devise a plan in the parking lot to get

ready for their crazy time on Black Friday.

People would think that since it's BLACK

FRIDAY, they would go to the stores on the Friday,

but, the sales really start on the night before.

On Black Friday people go crazy, but it's

worth it. Last year on black Friday, Walmart had

some great sales on video games, Xbox, ps3 YOU

NAME IT! Three games for the normal price of

one, even less!

Juan Calderon, 8th grader went out on

Black Friday to two malls and Walmart. He' went to

11 o’ clock on an exciting shopping night.

Beryl Myers and her family always wake

up at 7a.m. to go to Dennys to eat breakfast, after

that, they go shopping. They save up all their mon-

ey that year for this chaotic day.

Jonathan, 8th grader, goes to the stores,

after his family eats their thanksgiving dinner. He

goes to the stores before they open, just to be one of

the first ones in the store. Like many black Friday

shoppers, he pushes other shoppers out of the way

when he or the item he wants gets crowded.

Edmodo Edmodo is a new website where

teachers and students interact with

one another. In this website stu-

dent’s can see upcoming events, their

homework, can take test, and get help with a teacher

when they need it. Most teachers use the interactive website.

A poll was taken and teachers who don’t use it say is because they like

to talk with their student 1 on 1. However, most of the teachers who use it

say that this can help their students prepare for a technology centered

future. After all, we are students headed to a paperless era.
