The Cedarburg Cultural Center has developed a program designed to gather and share information on Ozaukee County structures 100 years old or older. The Historic Architecture Registry committee invites anyone with a qualifying home or other building to fill out a brief questionnaire regarding the history of their property. Participants are also welcome to share photos, documents or any other pertinent information with Sue Gyarmati, Historic Programming Coordinator at the CCC.

Information will be compiled and entered into a database. It is hoped that these materials will aid researchers, genealogists, students and other interested persons to assemble a more complete representation of the architectural history of Ozaukee County.

The Cedarburg Cultural Center is also offering a personalized plaque to commemorate participation in this important program and recognize these significant structures. The weatherproof bronze plaque features the year the building was constructed and may be purchased for $125. Proceeds will be used to support historic programming and the ongoing care of historic collections at the Cultural Center.

Come meet internationally acclaimed author Barb Joosse, author of more than 40 books for children, including Mama, Do You Love Me?, I Love You the Purplest, Lovabye Dragon and ROAWR! A lifelong resident of Wisconsin, Joosse lives in Cedarburg in an old stone house with her husband, C.T. Whitehouse, a bronze sculptor. She says, “This is my valentine to the home town I love.” Joosse also writes music for children to coordinate with her books.

We will be joined also by Renee Graef, beloved illustrator of more than 60 books for children, including B is for Badger: A Wisconsin Alphabet, the “Kirsten” books in the American Girl Collection, and the My First Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The Milwaukee-based Vitrolum Republic’s sound is a combination of styles that can best be described as classically-infused folk music. It’s a style all their own which they have come to call “Gypsy Noir.”

Their original compositions blur genres, combining classical elements with singer-songwriter, folk, bluegrass, blues and gypsy tango styling. Their music is diverse, and

draws upon the acoustic instrumentation that each member brings to the stage: violin, piano, acoustic guitar, accordion, mandolin, banjo upright bass, and a variety of percussion instruments.

VIOLIN PRODIGY HANNAH WHITE accompanied by brothers, Jonah and Joshua White

A student of the violin since the age of 6, Hannah’s accolades and honors would be impressive for any adult musician…however Hannah is only 12 years old! The winner of the 2012 MYSO Senior Symphony Concerto Competition, Hannah is entering her third year as a merit scholarship recipient and member of the Music Institute of Chicago’s (MIC) Academy Program for gifted pre-college musicians conducted by Roland Vamos and James Setapan. Hannah has been the youngest member in the orchestra all three years.

Hannah was a member of the Waukesha Area Youth Orchestra (WAYO) Sinfonettia for three years and WAYO Chamber group for two years under the direction of Timothy Cobb. Hannah has been a member of the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) String Orchestra West, Philharmonia, and Senior Symphony.

Hannah’s most recent accomplishments include placing second in the Society of American Musicians Music Competition Primary Division in 2011, and Second Place in the Junior Division in 2012. In December of 2011, Hannah participated in the Midwest Young Artists and Walgreens National Concerto Competition and received First Prize as Category Winner and also received Overall Winner in her division.

Hannah will be accompanied by her 13 and 15-year old brothers on the piano who are accomplished, award-winning musicians in their own right:

Jonah White is 15 and has been playing the piano for seven years. Jonah is currently studying at the Music Institute of Chicago with artist faculty member Brenda Huang. In 2011 Jonah won a Gold Prize at the Northwest Suburban Music Teachers Association and a Silver Prize at the Chicago Area Music Teachers Association. In 2012 he received First Prize in the Frank Stehlik’s Musichorale Music Competition in Illinois.

Joshua White is 13 and has been playing the piano for five years. Joshua is currently studying with Music Institute of Chicago’s artist faculty member Brenda Huang. Recently in 2011, he won the Silver Prize at the Chicago Area Music Teachers Association, and in 2012 received First Place at the 32nd Annual Roberta Savler Piano Contest in Chicago.

ArtistsFall 2012Local artist Susan Hale will be joining the center in September as our Artist in Residence. Susan will be at the Center on September 6, 12, 13, 14, 20 & 21 from 11 am – 4 pm to demonstrate her characteristic work, talk to the public and answer questions about her paintings. There is no charge to visit the artist, watch her work and be inspired by her process.

Throughout her month of residency, the artist will be working in oil paints on a special 48 x 60” painting, entitled “Ode to the Wisconsin Landscape.” Visitors will be able to see the progression of the painting from week to week.

In addition, Susan will be conducting a special workshop for adults on Friday, September 28 from 10 am - 4 pm. The one-day workshop, entitled “Painting Poppies ” focuses on creating your own interpretation of the subject, while having fun with “Bold and

Beautiful” composition, texture and color. Cost of the workshop is $68 for CCC Members/ $75 for Non-Members. Students should bring their own supplies.

Wisconsin Watercolor Society was founded in 1952 by a group of well-known Wisconsin artists and was the first Wisconsin Art Organization to be devoted exclusively to watercolor painting. Its purpose then as now has always been to demonstrate and exhibit meaningful development in the medium of watercolor and to serve as a catalyst for those genuinely interested in watercolor.

Planned Giving

With a planned gift, you can create a legacy that will continue your tradition of support and allow future generations to enjoy and benefit from the Cedarburg Cultural Center as you have. Some planned gifts offer immediate tax deductions as well as income for life.

There are many simple ways to include the Cedarburg Cultural Center in your estate plans. A bequest, charitable annuity or a gift of retirement fund assets each offers its own set of financial benefits for you and for the Center.

GIFTS BY BEQUEST Bequests are a convenient and flexible way to support the Cedarburg Cultural Center. By naming the Center in your will or living trust, you can make a meaningful gift while maintaining control of your assets during life. Your gift to the Center may be either a specified amount of money or a percentage of your estate, or you may include the Center as a contingent beneficiary.
