MOSCOW MULEAT THE TASTING BAR ON FEB. 5

The little cocktail that could, this delicious invention came to be out of the 1940's where three men sat in a room unable to find a market for their respective products. One man sold ginger beer, one man had just bought a little vodka distillery called Smirnoff, while a third person, an unidentified woman lamented she had all these copper mugs she couldn't get rid of...all with the imprint of a kicking mule on the side of each one.

CLARK

ALEXANDER VALLEY VINEYARDSREDEMPTION ZINFANDEL2012 DRY CREEK

Wine Advocate: “. . .big, sexy. . .” I say this wine is seductive. I simply can’t put it down. Fruit comes from two sites of the Dry Creek Valley. One site lies within the valley floor and gravely yet loamy soil produces flavors of berry and cherry - almost jam-like. A hillside site produces berries with high acidity and flavors of blackberry and blueberry. Its over-the-top color comes from twice daily pump over. These signature berry and cherry aromas and flavors spread out nicely across the palate delivering notes of vanilla, chocolate, and spice along the way to a beautiful, memorable finish.

$14.99Everyday $18.99

COUDELET DE BEAUCASTEL ROUGE2011 COTES DU RHONE

Grenache 30%, Mourvèdre 30%, Syrah 20%, Cinsault 20%.Each of these are fermented in separate lots until after malolactic fermentation when the final blend is decided and put together. The new wine continues to age in large oak vats for about six months. This complex wine is great to enjoy now, and will pair nicely with a wide range of lamb, beef, and hearty dishes. It will continue to age nicely for up to 10 years.

$27.99Everyday $38.99

HENRIK

PREDATOR OLDVINES ZINFANDEL2013 LODI

This Zinfandel has a deep ruby-cherry color with some tobacco, spice, oak and vanilla on the nose. Notes of black cherry with slight jamminess abound on the palate with hints of spicy flavors added to the mix for a long-lasting pleasure experience.

$14.99Everyday $17.99

DAVID F.

CHATEAU COUTET2010 SAINT-EMILIONGRAND CRU

The best price of the year for this classic Right Bank, Bordeaux (East side). It is a blend dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Franc with a small percentage of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. That combination gives Saint-Emilions a richer, rounder mouthfeel than their Cabernet Sauvignon based counterparts from the Left Bank, Bordeaux (West side). That makes it a great pairing for those winter-time dishes we all love. From a wine family with 500 years in the region and an importer focused on bringing affordable high quality wines from Southwest France to the United States.Win-Win, Cheers!

$26.99Everyday $34.99

JIMMY

CHRIS K.EDUCATED GUESSPINOT NOIRCARNEROS

Made from sourced grapes in Carneros, the 2012 Educated Guess Pinot is full of dark fruit, and a surprising amount of tannin. The great thing about this wine is the overall value. Many pinots from carneros of this caliber can run over twice the price. With the tannic backbone this pinot will hold up to roasted pork, chicken with herbs, and even some lighter red meat dishes.

$19.99Everyday $24.99

FINCH’S HARDCORE CHIMERA IMPERIAL IPA4-PACK CANS

An offspring of Typhon and Echidna, the Chimera was a creature composed of many parts of different animals. Composed of many different hops, this taste of mythological greatness has quintuple the flavor. Hints of pine and floral rest in a bed of citrus with just enough malt to tame this beast. Balanced enough for the casual drink and hardcore enough to tame the beast in all of us.

DANSK MJØDVIKING BLOD

Both strong and dense, Dansk Mjød’s Viking Blod is truly nectar fit for a Nordic warrior. Spiced with hibiscus and hops, the nose is lush, sweet and floral, while rich honey and hints of herb and spice dance upon the palate, with a pleasant though potent warming finish. Don’t drink the whole bottle unless you wish to see Valhalla.

VALL DE LLACH ‘EMBRUIX’2011

There is no doubt that some of the very best wines of Spain come from the Priorat region. ‘Embruix’ (‘bewitching’ in English) from Vall de Llach is DEFINITELY no exception! This lush blend of carignan, garnacha, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and syrah has nice (but not overpowering) tannins and big, rich fruit. Notes of plums, spices, lavender, cigar and berries make this wine a great winter companion. It matches up well with winter fare such as roasted meats, casseroles, sausages, grilled vegetables, paella, and stews. ‘Embruix’ can also be enjoyed on its own, if a fuller-bodied blend is your style! Decant? YES! Mazel Tov!

DAVID T.

KERMIT LYNCHTINTERO MOSCATO D’ASTI

This is an outstanding Moscato from one of Piedmont’s best. It is delicately sweet with some citrus and floral notes that keep the sweetness balanced. It has that fizzy texture that so many love about their sweeter wines. For those of you looking for something sweet to go along with chocolate on that special day, this true Moscato d’Asti is top notch!

OBAN LITTLE BAYSINGLE-MALT SCOTCH

JESSE’SSPIRIT PICK

One of Scotland’s oldest and smallest distilleries is Oban, whose name means little bay in Gaelic. This new offering has taken mature Oban whisky and rested it in small casks for some time. The extra exposure to the wood means more rich oak flavors coming from the appealing aroma and on the palate. I found espresso beans, spices, sea salt, and citrus also in the mix. For a new expression of an already wonderful whisky try it at this unbelievable price.
