I. WHY ICT for Youth in MusanzeI. WHY ICT for Youth in MusanzeMusanze District is home:

(1) Volcanoes National Park which attracts tourists, Researchers ,etc(2) Volcanic soil which increase productivity of Irish potatoes, Maize

and Vegetables

ICTs have proved to be effective tool in stimulating youth engaged in Tourism, Arts, Handcrafts and Agriculture in Musanze by

(1) Offering them new marketing tools (2) Helping them promote Tourism, Arts, Handcrafts and agriculture

opportunities (3) Bringing them into a wide range of job market to extend their

business.

II. II. CHALLENGES & OBJECTIVECHALLENGES & OBJECTIVECHALLENGES:

Challenges faced by Youth engaged in Tourism, Arts, Handcrafts and Agriculture in Musanze District: Lack of

(1) Capacity and policy support that would enable them to take advantage of the opportunities that ICTs offer (2);

(2) Documentation, promotion and marketing of youth’s innovations and and best practices;

(3) Policy provisions related to youth’s involvement in Tourism, Arts, Handcrafts and Agriculture as well as ICTs .

ONE SMALL ENTREPRISE (1SE)

The 1SE project will be adopt an integrated approach that addresses YOUTH capacity building activities in Musanze District, Northern Province-Rwanda

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF 1SE PROJECT:

Improve MUSANZE’ s YOUTH livelihoods by creating jobs opportunities (using resources available) in Agriculture, Tourism, Arts and Handcratfts through ICTs

III.III. EXPEXTED RESULTS: EXPEXTED RESULTS:

PURPOSE OF 1SE PROJECT: The project aims at strengthening youth job opportunities in agriculture, Tourism,

Arts and Handcrafts using ICTs in Musanze District. The Project will support in particular youth training Centers, Young Farmer Groups (cooperatives) to make more effective use of ICTs to enhance job creation and business opportunities in Agriculture, Tourism, Arts and Handcrafts.

EXPECTED RESULTS:

1. The capacity of three (3) youth training centers and twenty (2) young farmer groups across Musanze District are strengthened in ICT for agriculture, Tourism, Arts and Handcrafts development;

2. Youth led ICT for Agriculture, Tourism, Arts and Handcrafts development initiatives are identified, documented, innovate uses and lessons learned are shared;

3. The awarenesses of at least 500 youth and 250 young farmer groups from Musanze on agriculture, Tourism, Arts and Handcrafts issues and ICTs use is strengthened and opportunities in these sectors are promoted;

4. Favorable policies elements for using ICT to improve youth job creation are identified and promoted.

2. Targeted youth training centers use innovative ICT tools to empower other youths in their search for improved livelihoods opportunities in Agriculture, Tourism, Arts, Handcrafts;

3. Musanze region’ youth and young farmer groups innovations and best experiences in relation to ICT use in Agricultural, Tourism, Arts and Handcrafts businesses are better known, promoted and supported;

4. Great lakes region’ policy makers have committed to take advance of project’s conclusions to adopt and implement improved youth policies related improving youth opportunities in Agriculture development and ICTs.

1. Introduction to participatory World Wide Web (Web2.0);2. To Conducting advanced multilingual online search;3. To get selected information served to youth via alerts and RSS feeds;4. To develop content remotely using wikis and Google docs and online mapping;5. To locate youth organization and their projects on a online Map;6. Online publishing (Micro-blogging and blogging);7. Introduction to Geographic Information System (GIS) and Google Map & Earth;8. To Organize local competition to gather best solutions on the use of ICT for Tourism,

Arts, Handcrafts and Agriculture development.

TIMEFRAME:

The duration of the project is 12 months, starting in June 2013.
