• 唯一的中文老师 being the only Chinese teacher
• 不属于初中也不属于高中 splitting schedule results in no time for interaction with collegues

• 不管多忙，一定要和同事讲话 build relationship with your colleagues

During my first year of teaching, I worked 70 to 80-hour weeks,
including time worked during the school day, in the evenings and
over the weekend

4. To communicate with other teachers

6. To make Chinese FUN!
My biggest challenge was developing reasonable expectations, from behavior to work effort to quality of work. It took
me months to get used to typical adolescent behavior—their language,
their humor, their sensitivity, their sometimes nonchalant attitude toward school work. And their mood swings! Now I'm much more relaxed with my students, much more compassionate,
and patient.
I would advise new teachers to think very carefully about their expectations—and that doesn't
mean giving up on high expectations—it just means
working to understand the minds and the abilities of their students.
