Why I am participating in the Boys and Girls Club Fundraiser “Dancing for the Stars.”

When I was asked to partici-pate in the Dancing for the Stars fundraiser by Kristen Kerns, Development director, it was an easy yes. And while the glamour of the event was especially enticing it was actually the fact that the Boys and Girls Club provides a wonderful program and service to our communities and this fundraiser will help them continue serving our youth. The Boys and Girls Club of-fers affordable after-school and summer programs for young adults ages 6-18 and provides award-winning programs de-signed to change the lives of young people. Our Prescott Val-ley club always has a waiting list of our kids, many the most vulnerable. Our Town Council, in their wisdom and generos-ity, has opted for the Community Development Block Grant to go to the Prescott Valley club campus for a much needed expansion thus allowing increased capacity and improving the ability to serve more kids. There is always a financial need to provide for the programming, assisting with scholarships for those with less income and upkeep and maintenance of the facility. The “Dancing for the Stars” is a fun and innovative to involve the community in the fundraising process.

As for me I have a wonderful partner, Ronnie DeBenedetta, who is a professional dancer. The illusion of glamour of the event has been replaced with the reality of tiring rehearsals, sore muscles, and a challenged memory to keep it all together. But I am enjoying every minute and loving being a part of this wonderful fundraiser to help our Boys and Girls Club of Central Arizona!

Votes would be greatly appreciated and you can go to www.dancingforthestars.net/marnieuhl. The event will be held on April 21st at the Elks Theater.

    Thank you, Marnie
