CHAPTER EXPECTATIONS RESOURCE GUIDE
The following guide contains a list of potential partners for Chapter Expectations Programming.
Most of the specific contacts listed have partnered with fraternities and sororities in the past, however you are encouraged to find and create new programming opportunities outside of what you may find in this guide. This guide will be updated periodically as DFSL finds new resources
for programming.

TIPS:
● Hold a Scholarship Dinner where you honor high performing members in your chapter. You could invite a faculty member to speak.
● Ask a successful alumni member who has a relevant background to speak to the chapter about academic success.
● Create study hours for all members of the chapter.● Create a point system or a type of competition to encourage your members to place
academics at a higher importance.

TIPS:● Ask alumni of your chapter to come speak, especially if your chapter has a history of
alcohol and/or substances interfering with chapter procedures, individual members, etc.● Invite a qualified guest speaker to present to your chapter.
ALUMNI PROGRAM
TIPS:● Host a Founder’s Day event and invite local/regional alumni to attend and participate.● Invite them to collaborate with your chapter on service projects.● Utilize social media to create new ways of updating alumni on your chapter (e.g. a chapter
blog, electronic newsletter, etc.)● Alumni often have great real-world experience and insight. Try to plan programs that allow
your chapter members to tap into these valuable resources (e.g. alumni Q & A panels, guest speaker events etc.)

TIPS:● Search the list of academic departments to find faculty/staff in an area of interest.● Develop a relationship with faculty who work or teach in an office or department that your
chapter is interested in. Invite them to your scholarship banquets or other events. This promotes a long-term relationship between the faculty member and the chapter. Don’t forget to follow-up and thank them for attending!
● Invite a faculty member to host a Q&A session about research/employment opportunities in their field.
● Reach out to your chapter’s faculty advisor and invite them to an event or ask them to speak to your chapter on a topic of interest related to their professional/academic/personal experiences.

TIPS:● Create your own multicultural experience. Have individual members attend sessions and
events on topics that interest them, then share what was learned with the chapter.● The Art & Learning Center (ALC) provides workshops open to the public on a variety of
topics. Check out their “Upcoming Events” on their website.● Think beyond race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. Events that cover differences such as
ability, social class, education, and more are also valuable.● Conduct events where you learn more about members within your own chapter on a
deeper, more personal level.● Check out the Cross Cultural Learning & Student Involvement event calendar through
Multicultural Involvement & Community Advocacy (MICA) to look for educational opportunities for your chapter.

PARENT/FAMILY PROGRAM
TIPS:● Host a Family Day event that celebrates the important people in your chapter members’
lives.● Find ways to engage and educate parents and family about the fraternity/sorority
experience (e.g. invite them to participate in a service project).● If you host a BBQ or brunch, don’t just serve food. Think of creative ways to make the
event a fun and engaging experience for parents and family (e.g. games, sports, performances, etc.)

them to facilitate a program about your chapter’s values.● Plan an event that meets the needs of your chapter at that time. Be creative and come up
with innovative programs based on one or more of your unique values.
