ABOUT THE CHATTANOOGA BOYS CHOIR The Chattanooga Boys Choir was founded in 1954 and remains the oldest boychoir in the southeastern United States. The music performance and education organization includes over 130 boys in five different ensembles, representing over forty schools from across the Chattanooga area and several home-schooled students. The choir has presented concerts in forty states and in twenty foreign countries across five conti-nents, including recent concert tours of Cuba, Ireland, Canada, the Czech Republic, and performances throughout the United States including New York’s Carnegie Hall, St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans LA, and the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston SC.

The choir has given numerous invitational performances for choral music, education, and church music events, including and conferences of the National Association for State Arts Agencies, the NAfME Symposi-um on the History of Music Education, and the American Choral Directors Association. The choir was fea-tured on the 2010 GRAMMY-nominated recording of Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortileges with the Nashville Sym-phony Orchestra and recent recordings with contemporary musical artists Steven Curtis Chapman and Casting Crowns.

As part of the CBC’s educational pursuits, the choir features a college music student internship program, special performances geared for school-age children, and a computer music theory lab and choral musi-cianship curriculum for its choristers. The choir - the only choir awarded the prestigious Tennessee Gover-nor’s Award in the Arts - has been praised for its adventurous programming including community hymn festivals, neighborhood KidSing concerts, benefit concerts for local arts centers and the community food bank, and themed concerts on the works of W. A. Mozart, songs of the U.S. Civil War, and music of the Holo-caust. The CBC’s Singing Christmas Tree, complete with orchestra, guest choirs, and a local ballet compa-ny, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012 as the traditional start to the holiday season in Chattanooga.

AUDITIONS The Chattanooga Boys Choir audition is a simple and painless process that ensures that a young man en-tering the choir possesses the basic tools necessary for participation in the group. No prior choir or singing experience is necessary! The activities involved in the brief, low-pressure audition will include:

• Rhythm recollection - repeating a short rhythm by clapping • Repeat brief musical phrases and scale patterns (as first played/sung to him) • Sing short scales in different keys (high/low) to assess the boy’s range

If a boy would like to sing a simple song (“Happy Birthday,” “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” etc.), to begin his audition, he is welcome to do so, but it is not required.
