Root Beer Floats during Intermission

Dear Patrons, Thank you so much for joining us this evening. For those of us involved the “summer show” has always been about having fun. The band loves to play, the kids love to sing and dance, and who doesn’t love a root beer float? We’ve done shows built around letters of the alphabet, or individual decades, or even one hit wonders. But tonight’s show is different. Tonight we begin to celebrate a milestone. For the past half a century Roncalli High School has partnered with parishes, parents, and the lakeshore community to educate children. It is worth remembering tonight as we sit in the air conditioned comfort of our multi-million dollar fine arts center that it all began with dedicated parents and advocates going door to door and sitting around kitchen tables seeking donations and support for a local Catholic high school. Those people were committed to the idea of educating young men and women intellectually, physically, and most importantly, spiritually. Those same ideals drive the school today. So it’s fitting and fun to take this opportunity to welcome back alumni and friends and follow the Lord’s admonition to, “make a joyful noise.” I personally want to thank those alumni who have taken time out of their busy lives to join us. We hope you enjoy our offering. So sit back, relax, clap your hands, and if the spirit moves you sing along, just not too loudly. Then have a root beer float at intermission and come back and do it again.
