Announcements

• Started my book. It’s a collection of various teachings I’ve been doing through the years compiled into book form. My goal is to have it completed in 6 months but it could take longer. I’m taking it very slow. This wont interfere with any of my regular duties here or with Torah Light. I hope it will be a help and companion to the teachings that I do here and elsewhere.

• Businesses (Pam, Evi, web design)• Dr. Chester teaching Wednesday night live via

Chavareem Toveem!

• Chavareem Toveem!• Meet any new people. Let them see that Messianics truly

understand community and brotherly/sisterly love.• If someone is already talking to a visitor stand in line to meet

them don’t just walk away. We want to descend on them like they are a lost relative.

• Say hello to old friends. Find out how their week has been going. Show that you care.

• Say hello to anyone you have something against… and give them a hug . There is room in the Body for forgiveness.

• Exercise modesty with your hugs.

• 2 And Elijah went to shew himself unto Ahab. And there was a sore famine in Samaria.

• 3 And Ahab called Obadiah, which was the governor of his house. (Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly:

• 6 So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.

• 7 And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou that my lord Elijah?

• KJV Mark 13:1 And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!

• We see something odd in this verse right off the top. There’s a mention of the type of stones that are used in the temple.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 43: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• Well there’s a reason why it was mentioned.

• The type of stones that were used in the second temple for the major part of it’s construction was Herodian stone.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 44: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• Herodian stone is not a type of rock. The type of rock was Jerusalem stone taken from nearby quarries.

• Herodian stone was the type of cut of the stone.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 45: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• This is Herodian stone. It has a very particular cut to it.

• It very characteristic of the work that Herod had done and a constant reminder to the Jews who had built it.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 46: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• And Yeshua didn’t have a whole lot of respect for the stones etc used in His Temple either.

• It was His Father’s house because it had remnants of the original layout, but it wasn’t exactly His blueprints.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 47: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• Solomon’s Temple was made from G-d’s blueprints but Herod’s Temple wasn’t.

• There’s a principle here…

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 48: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• The blue prints to G-d’s Holy Temple isn’t

given to the un-Saved.• So all the hype you hear

about the “Temple Faithful”, the group that says they have the blue prints for the third Temple…

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 49: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• Those aren’t the blue prints that G-d will give us.

• The blue prints will be given to G-d’s elect, the Messianic Jews.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 50: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• Not to a group of un-Saved Jews who don’t believe in Yeshua.

• So, this statement of Yeshua’s was directed against the non-Jewish architect, King Herod.

• This is the context of the Disciples question and Yeshua’s answer coupled with the prophecy He was giving.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 51: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• So Yeshua said the Temple would be torn down…

• 2 And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 52: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• “But what about the Wailing Wall (Western Wall, Kotel)?

• That was not part of the temple.

• That’s only a retaining wall.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 53: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• 3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,

• Some people get confused with this translation. Yeshua wasn’t sitting against the Temple here.

• The Temple is NOT on the Mt of Olives.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 54: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• 4 "Tell us, when will this happen, and what sign will there be when all these things are about to come to an end?“

• So since Yeshua is prophesying here, they ask Him to tell about the end of the world.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 55: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• 5 Jesus began to say to them, "See that no one deceives you.

• This is an Hebraism: “Do not be deceived”.• That means “listen carefully”

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 56: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• 6 Many will come in my name saying, 'I am he,' and they will deceive many.

• Two things are being said here. One is that people will come saying they are the Messiah and others will come speaking in His Name.

• And we’ve talked about this before…

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 57: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• Speaking in one’s “name” is a rabbinical term.• If you were a Disciple and ordained by your

Rabbi, you could then speak in that Rabbi’s name.

• This was very very common. In Rabbinical literature from that time you see it every few pages.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 58: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• So Yeshua was saying not only that people would come saying they were the Messiah but also that others would be quoting Him who did NOT have the authority to do so as they had NOT been ordained by Him with the leaning on of hands.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 59: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• 7 When you hear of wars and reports of wars do not be alarmed; such things must happen, but it will not yet be the end.

• This verse is often misinterpreted. • Prophecy teachers today teach that when you

hear about a whole bunch of wars, that’s the End Days.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 60: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• They point out all of the wars going on in todays world and say that’s proof that we’re near the end.

• However, that is NOT the proof.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 61: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• There have been worse wars in history then ANYTHING going on today.

• Starting with Nero and his persecution of Jews and Christians…

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 62: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• Going to Hitler’s WWII.

• If wars and rumors of wars was the signal, then the last days were during Hitler’s Germany.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 63: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• “But look at the next verse!!!”• 8 Nation will rise against nation and kingdom

against kingdom. There will be earthquakes from place to place and there will be famines. These are the beginnings of the labor pains.

• “See!!! That’s what we’re experiencing today!!!”

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 64: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• Sorry but that’s been experienced since the beginning of the fall of man.

• Yeshua is saying here, don’t be worried when you hear about all these wars and rumors of wars. That’s not the time to fret.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 65: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• In this next verse, Yeshua says something here very very interesting and important for Messianics to understand…

• 9 "Watch out for yourselves. They will hand you over to the courts. You will be beaten in synagogues. You will be arraigned before governors and kings because of me, as a witness before them.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 66: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• You may have heard me speak about this verse before, but it’s worth repeating.

• You’ve heard me say many times that the sect of the Nazarenes was exactly that, a sect.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 67: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• A sect of what?• A sect of Judaism.• A section of Judaism

NOT a new religion called “Christianity”.

• Now note what Yeshua says here…

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 68: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• “You will be beaten in Synagogues”.

• Jews don’t beat Gentiles in their Synagogues.

• They don’t grab Gentiles off the street and beat them for not obeying their rules.

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 69: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• So, no matter which way you interpret this it has a lot of meaning.

• If you interpret it in context, he was saying that in the last days, His Body will be connected to Judaism or…

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 70: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

The Rebbe’s ParshaRunning Commentary on Mark 13

Page 71: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• There’s a lot in that verse and it proves that the faith in Yeshua HaMeshiach was intended to be a Jewish thing, NOT a separate religion called Christianity.

• Baruch HaShem, let’s start the teaching.

Messianic Judaism 101Class 2

By Rabbi Stanley

Review +

• So we’ve taken a look over the last few weeks at some important foundational information concerning the First Church.

Page 74: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• We found out that the word “Church” and “New Testament” didn’t even exist in the First Century.

Page 75: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• We also discovered that the word “Christian” was something that was used as a derogatory term to denote Gentile Believers and was never used in describing Jewish Believers.

• Terminology is important

Page 76: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• The first Believers were all Jews and they were called the people of “The Way” and shortly after they were called the “Sect of the Nazarenes” (Notzreem).

Page 77: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• These Notzreem were not Christians but a sect of the Jews just as the Pharisees and the Sadducees were sects of Judaism.

SECTION

Page 78: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +• John The Immerser

(Baptist) more then likely had his own sect as well. We do know he had his own disciples who followed him even after his (John the Immerser) encounter with Yeshua.

John 1

29The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him

and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the

sin of the world!

35The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!"

Page 79: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• We read that St. Peter told us to praise G-d if we were persecuted as “Christians”… but that doesn’t mean that Messianic Jews should call themselves “Christians”.

Page 80: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• We should call ourselves Jews or Messianic Jews or Notzreem or People of The Way or whatever YOU decide to call yourself, not what critics have labeled you as.

Is ”Christian” a

Page 81: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• So obviously, Yeshua hadn’t come to start a new religion called Christianity.

• He came to fulfill Judaism and not abolish it.

• (abolish means to get rid of)

Page 82: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• The First Church then fled to Pella (after the Bar Kokhba War) and Gentiles then ruled the Church in Jerusalem.

• (note: all of the First Church kept all the Peculiar Jewish Laws.)

Page 83: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• The Gentile Church obviously then began to adopt some pagan theology and the two groups, the “Notzreem” and the “Church”, began to take different paths.

• We saw this as early as 310 AD.

Page 84: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• St Epiphanius made it clear that the Notzreem were NOT in accord with the established Gentile Christian Church.

Page 85: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• We also went over that if you are keeping (or trying your best to keep) the covenantal laws, then you are a Jew!

Page 86: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• You are no longer then a Gentile and no one here should ever remind you that you ever were a Gentile… you are reborn!

Page 87: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• Take the Jewish phrase reborn, translate it into Greek and it comes out “Born Again”. Born Again (reborn) was a popular phrase in First Century Judaism.

Page 88: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• Yeshua Himself used it, but there were other ways to use that phrase as well. (Mikva, one who had become the leader of his own School/Yeshiva

Page 89: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• Yeshua used it to mean that you had been cleansed of sin and you were a new man in Him.

• Who can tell me what advantage there is to being Jewish?

Page 91: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• That’s not what they say in most Churches.

• They say we’re all the same in every way.

• “There’s no Jew or Greek in Christ Jesus”.

• But they fail to understand this has to do with Salvation.

Page 93: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• That same passage also says that there is neither male or female, but have you noticed that after you got Saved, you were still either a man or a woman?

Page 94: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• There’s quite a few differences there.

• Different ministries between men and woman.

• Different roles• Different expectations• Different strengths• Different weaknesses• Not the same are we?

Page 95: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +

• We also found that it’s probably not a good idea to call yourself a Jew if you are NOT one.

Page 96: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Review +• Revelation 2:9• 9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but

• Judaizing is saying you can’t be SAVED unless you keep the Peculiar Laws of the Jewish covenant with G-d.

• It’s not Judaizing telling people to keep any or all of His Commandments.

• If I tell a Saved Gentile to not eat limbs off live animals am I Gentilizing?

model of the Temple to see how people drew near to G-d.

• Those who did NOT keep covenant were the furthest from the Holy of Holies where G-d resided.

Page 100: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

• I know this also goes against the teachings of the Church.

Page 114: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Dr. Ron Moseley

• First, let’s meet Dr. Ron Moseley…

• Studied at Princeton Theological Seminary and Oxford University. He has a Masters in Jewish Studies, a PHD in Second Temple History, a Dr of Phil. in Religion and Society and a Dr of Literature in Research.

Page 115: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Dr. Ron Moseley

• He spent 12 summers in Israel and studied at the American Institute of Holy Land Studies on HarZion.

• He is both a Fellow and a Scholar at the Oxford Society of Scholars having written over 80 courses for Bible Colleges in over 18 countries.

Page 116: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Many Sects

• As I’ve mentioned before there were many sects of Judaism.

• According to Dr. Ron Moseley there were nearly 30 of them.

Page 117: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Many Sects

• The Talmud says that 24 of these were at one time or another considered to be outside of the mainstream of Judaism.

Page 118: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Many Sects

• Besides the more well known sects of the Pharisees and Sadducees and the Essenes were others such as the Ebionites, Boethusians Genistae and the Meristae (The Dividers).

Page 119: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Many Sects

• St. Justin Martyr lists many of these as well

• All different then each other but still Jewish.

• The Nazarenes were also a Jewish sect.

Page 120: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Many Sects

• If it hadn’t have been for the Bar Khoba revolt in 132 AD we’d all still be worshipping together in the Synagogues with our Jewish brethren.

• That being said…

Page 121: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Many Sects

• the various smaller sects would often be persecuted by the larger more orthodox sects. While at the same time still considering them to be Jewish.

Page 122: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Many Sects• So it’s really no surprise

that Shaul (Paul) would go out and persecute the Notzreem.

Page 123: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Many Sects

• Yeshua Himself even addresses this in Mathew 10:17

• 17"Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues.”

Page 124: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Many Sects

• Notice it says, in their synagogues.

• Guess what? Jews didn’t flog non Jews.

• They didn’t go out and kidnap non Jews for breaking Commandments and haul them into their synagogues.

Page 125: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Many Sects

• Matter of fact, the Mishna says that non-Jews are not under the same Laws (and thus they could not be closer to G-d).

• If a Gentile converted they then became subject to the same Laws as the Jews.

Page 126: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Many Sects

• But remember any gentile that converted was no longer to be called a Gentile, that was forbidden.

Page 127: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers

• Now, I know that most Churches say that the First Church was very different because Yeshua performed miracles and no one else did in those days.

• But that is not true.

Page 128: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers• There were many First

Century miracle workers let’s look at 2 of them…

• Honi haMagael• He lived in the First

Century.• He was a well known

Jewish scholar

Page 129: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers• He was famous for his

ability to successfully pray for rain.

• On one occasion when G-d did not send rain

well into the winter Honi drew a circle in the dust, stood inside it, and informed God that he would not move until it rained.

Page 130: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers• When it began to drizzle,

Honi, in true Jewish style, told God that he was not satisfied and expected more rain!

• It then began to pour. He explained that he wanted a calm rain, at which point the rain calmed to a normal calm rain.

• After this incident he was given the nickname, Honi the Circle Drawer.

Page 131: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers• This was before

Yeshua was here.• Honi was a well known

scholar and pious man

Page 132: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers• He was almost

excommunicated by the High Jewish Court for the way he talked to G-d so irreverently (though we see hints of that with some other Biblical characters).

• However, the brother of the Queen excused him, saying that he was Honi and had a special relationship with God.

Tomb of Honi the Circle Drawer

Page 133: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers• Another Rabbi named

Hanina BenDosa was also famous for his miracles.

• The son of Rabbi Gamaliel II (grandson of Paul’s Rabbi) had become ill and Rabbi Gamaliel II sent a messenger to Rabbi Hanina. Tomb of Rabbi Gamaliel II

Page 134: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers• When Rabbi Hanina

heard what had happened he went out and prayed.

• When he came back he told the messenger that the boy had been healed.

• The messenger had some doubt and he wrote down the exact time. Tomb of Hanina BenDosa

Page 135: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers• When he got back to

Rabbi Gamaliel II he found that the boy was well and asked Rabbi Gamaliel II what time the healing had occurred.

• It was the exact same time as what he had noted down before.

Page 136: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers

• It was after Yeshua’s time, by about a generation.

• But note that Rabbi Gamaliel II trusted Rabbi Hanina

Page 137: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers

• And this Rabbi (Gamaliel II) had some very serious connections with the Messianic Movement and Yeshua’s Disciples.

• His grandfather had saved many of the Disciples including Peter. (Acts 5:33)

Page 138: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers• He was related to Rabbi

Eliezar who was condemned for being a Believer in Yeshua.

• Also notice that Rabbi Akiva was killed for his participation in the Bar Khoba War.

Page 139: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers

• A war where anyone who had joined that force had to declare Bar Kochba the Messiah.

• The Messianics wouldn’t do that and they lived…

• Why was Rabbi Gamaliel II still alive after the Romans defeated them?

Page 140: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers• He was the first person

to lead the Sanhedrin as Nasi after the fall of the second temple.

• Makes you wonder if he too was a Believer.

• If he was a Believer and trusted Rabbi Hanina’s faith, it’s possible that Hanina was a Believer in Yeshua too.

Page 141: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers

• I’m not saying they all were. But the more you read about the ancient Rabbis, you start seeing more and more connections like these.

Page 142: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers

• I know for sure that all the Jews weren’t the bad guys like the Church has taught for 2,000 years.

• Maybe the Church is also wrong about many of these Rabbis.

Page 143: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers

• Back to the miracle workers…

• So there were Miracle workers in the First Century.

• But there were certain miracles they were never able to perform.

Page 144: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers

• They could cure a blind man but not one who was blind from birth.

• They could heal many diseases but not leprosy.

• They could even cast out demons, but not a mute demon.

Page 145: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers

• Yeshua however did all these things.

• This sheds light on Matt 11:4-6 when John the Immerser

(incorrectly called John The Baptist)

had his messengers ask Yeshua if He was “The One to come”

Page 146: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers• Yeshua answered…• “The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the

lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.” Matt 11:4-6

Page 147: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Miracle Workers• He probably answered

more like…• “I cured the blind from

birth, I cleansed the lepers and caused the mute to speak.”

• That would’ve been a direct Messianic answer to John The Immerser’s question.

Page 148: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Are you the Messiah?

• While we’re on this passage of Scripture let’s take a look at what the Sanhedrin's response would’ve been once they heard that someone was claiming to be the Messiah.

Page 149: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Are you the Messiah?

• By Law the Sanhedrin was to investigate the situation in two stages: The first stage was called the “Stage of Observation."

Page 150: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Are you the Messiah?

• A delegation was formed to investigate only by way of observation. These delegates could come from a variety of towns and cities.

Page 151: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Are you the Messiah?

• This delegation was to observe what was being said, what was being done, and what was being taught. They were not permitted to ask any questions or raise any objections.

Page 152: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Are you the Messiah?

• After a period of observation, they were then to go to Jerusalem, report to the Sanhedrin and give a verdict…

Page 153: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Are you the Messiah?

• …was the movement significant, or was the movement insignificant? If the movement was decreed to be insignificant, the matter would be dropped like an unkosher hotdog.

Page 154: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Are you the Messiah?

• But if the movement was declared to be significant, there would, then, be a second stage of investigation… called the “Stage of Interrogation."

Page 155: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Are you the Messiah?

• In this stage, they would interrogate the individual or members of the movement. This time, they would ask questions and raise objections to discover whether the claims should be accepted or rejected.

Page 156: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Are you the Messiah?• We see this play out exactly in the Brit Hadasha in Luke 5…• Vs 17…• 17. Pharisees and teachers of the law, who had come from every village of

Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem.• 18Some men came carrying a paralytic on a mat and tried to take him into

the house to lay him before Jesus. 19When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.

• 21. And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying (this word is not in the Greek), Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone? But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?

Page 157: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Are you the Messiah?

• First… so many delegates came out that the local people couldn’t even get the paralyzed man into see Yeshua.

Page 158: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Are you the Messiah?

• Then we see He read their thoughts and their hearts because the delegates weren’t saying anything to Him at that point.

• They were in the “Stage of Observation”

Page 159: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

Are you the Messiah?• Then, later on in

Scripture they come back and interrogate Him as per Jewish Law.

• That’s what this passage is about!

• See if we understand the times, the culture and the Laws of First Century Judaism, things start to become clear.

Page 160: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

We are not “The Church”

• I’m sorry to say, but most of today’s Church is very unclear.

• They’re foggy because they’ve left the Jews out of the very Jewish book called the Bible.

Page 161: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

We are not “The Church”

• Messianic Judaism is not another Church.

• There’s lots of Churches out there, that’s not what we are here.

• We’re a Messianic Synagogue and there’s only one of these in this valley so far.

Page 162: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

We are not “The Church”• Messianic Judaism

believes that Yeshua is the Messiah but we don’t accept any paganism in our walk of faith.

• We teach that the Law is still in effect and that if we break it, we fall under the curse of sin

Page 163: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

We are not “The Church”• Galatians 3:10 (Dr. David Stern Translation)• 10 For everyone who depends on legalistic observance

of Torah commands lives under a curse, since it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not keep on doing everything written in the Scroll of the Torah."

Page 164: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

We are not “The Church”

• We see it like the Apostle Paul.

• He said the Law is “holy just and good”… not done away with as the Church teaches.

• Paul even said he loved the Law.

• The Church says they also love the Law but they then ignore it.

Page 165: Checklist Congregational Projector Blue cord to projector Power cord extension to projector Computer Power cord to computer Mouse for computer Net antennae

We are not “The Church”

• You can’t ignore something you love!
