global economy is changing.
The first part of todays lesson will be spent
using peer assessment to mark the exam
question you answered for homework.
(i) Which areas experienced the greatest losses of jobs? (2 marks)
SE, Midlands, Northern Ireland and other old industrial, densely populated areas.
(ii) Why were the losses so high in these areas? (4 marks)
Examples include:
Overseas competition caused reduced output in these areas as orders are lost overseas, for instance Clydeside – once a major shipbuilding area has declined due competition from Germany, France and Japan.
Shift from the traditional materials (wood and jute) to man-made fibres (nylon) has caused a decline in Yorkshire.
