Dear Friends,
the call to mean, “l’kha – for you should make the trumpets out of your own resources.” Rabbi Yonatan interprets the instruction to mean, “l’kha – for you must consider others and make the trumpets out of the community’s resources.”
This is every community’s biggest burden. We think about individual resources and needs first. But then we must also think about our community as a whole. How do we best collect and make use of our shared resources for everyone’s benefit?
True community results when we give something of ourselves in deference to another’s interest, and then receive back from them that same respect and opportunity. Sacred communities call on us to give in order to receive.
Your choice to donate to Chizuk Amuno reflects your values, and demonstrates that you sense something of value and importance happens here. All of us are gratified by your gracious gift, your involvement, and your trust.

Values lie at the core of a congregation’s life. We belong to Chizuk Amuno, we worship and study at Chizuk Amuno, we serve God and society through Chizuk Amuno, we volunteer our time and talents
to Chizuk Amuno, and we contribute to Chizuk Amuno because we are touched and guide our own lives by the Jewish values embodied in our synagogue community.
We value every person as tzelem Elohim, a reflection of God’s image. We strive for equality in community and try to be responsive to individual needs. We value Torah and Jewish tradition, learning and debate. We value celebration with and participation in the life of a dynamic community. We value honesty and goodness. We value authenticity in religious practice and interpretation.
Our values were on display in the character and quality of the fine programs, classes, services, and events in which we participated this year. Against the backdrop of a challenging and difficult world environment, at Chizuk Amuno we stood by our values, and provided for our congregants the support, caring, and engaging experiences that offer counter-point and response to our personal and common concerns. Our values were also present in good governance, membership development, our communications and expanded use of technology, and the move to our “Age-based Dues” structure, along with the dedicated work of so many volunteers and staff members.
In the Book of Numbers, God commands Moses to make two silver trumpets for calling the community together. “Aseh l’kha,” God commands. “Make for yourself.” Rabbi Yoshiah interprets

What an extraordinary year this has been. In the midst of an incredibly challenging time for our economy and for most people’s investment portfolios, I watched and participated with our
members as our community came to together for exploration, celebration, and participation in the life of our synagogue community.
I saw how we are Finding Meaning. I saw members connecting to Jewish tradition and community through worship, education, and significant life cycle events and how stellar schools offered learning opportunities for all ages and learning styles.
I saw how we are Strengthening Faith. I witnessed diverse Jews coming together for prayer, spiritual renewal, and community in a warm, enriching environment. I saw support and comfort offered during times of celebration and sadness.
I saw how we are Creating Community. Individuals committed to repairing our world through meaningful social action joined together along with caring clergy and teachers, to grow our relationships and connections.
Contained in the pages of this report are the names of those whose generosity enabled Chizuk Amuno to remain fiscally stable and achieve outstanding fundraising success.
On behalf of the Officers and Board of Trustees, we would like to thank all those who have shared their resources to our sacred work and to Anne Young, Immediate Past President, Shelly Malis, our Annual Campaign Chair, and Neil Katz and Sandi Moffet, Co-Chairs. You have all helped assure that we can embrace and serve everyone who calls upon our synagogue community for Jewish engagement and personal support.

Established in July 1994, the Chizuk Amuno Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that supports Chizuk Amuno Congregation in its efforts to provide religious services, education, and programming for the Chizuk Amuno community. Named funds range in value from $5,000 to over $3 million. The Foundation oversees the management of restricted and unrestricted endowment funds. Restricted funds provide scholarships for Krieger Schechter Day School,
Rosenbloom Religious School, Jewish camps, and Israel programs, stipends for professional development, income for capital maintenance, special program lectures, and support for social service and educational programs. We are indebted to those who generously funded the original concept inaugurated in 1987 and to all those individuals, families, and foundations who have since joined our earliest donors to assure the future financial stability and viability of Chizuk Amuno.
