The Order For Morning Worship

18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME

Organ Voluntary Welcome & Worship Notes Call to Worship

God meets us in our greatest need and satisfies us with divine presence and provision. In gratitude, let us worship the Lord our God.

Hymn No. 267 “Come, Christians, Join to Sing” Prayer of the Day

Life-changing God, you have touched us and transformed us to reach out to all who hunger for what only you can give. Keep our feet in your paths and bless us to multiply blessings to others, through Jesus Christ our Redeemer and Lord. Amen.

Call to Confession

Let us confess our sins in the presence of the One who blesses us and meets our need.

Prayer of Confession God of compassion, we are sick.

We have wrestled all night with worry

instead of resting in you.

We have asserted our own goodness instead of awakening to yours.

We have turned away those hungry for your help

instead of trusting you and feeding them

from your limitless supply of blessings.

Forgive us, heal us, and help us to hold on to you.

We call upon you, for you will answer us, O God,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sermon Rev. David de Vries

“Adoption, Provision and Challenge”

So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “For I have seen God face to face,

and yet my life is preserved.” The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel,

limping because of his hip.

OUR RESPONSE TO THE WORD

Affirmation of Faith The Nicene Creed

Anthem

Invitation to the Lord’s Table

The Great Thanksgiving

The Lord be with you.

Lift up your hearts.

Let us give thanks to God.

We give thanks to you, creating God,

breath of all being;

the earth is yours and all that is in it,

and all who dwell therein.

You founded it upon the seas

and made it firm upon the deep.

You planted seeds in fertile ground,

to rise and sing your praise.

You formed us from the earth

and planted goodness in our souls,

that we might love like you.

You called us to live your law of harmony

and to long for your commands.

Yet, when our disordered cravings bowed down our spirit,

you did not leave us low,

but bent down to meet us and grow us up again.

Page 5: Christ Presbyterian Church

Therefore we lift our voices in thanksgiving,

for you have wondrously made us.

By water and your life-giving Spirit,

you have more wondrously remade us

to join the song of all creation

and forever sing your praise:

Sanctus Hymn No. 552

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

We give you thanks, O God,

that you sowed your Word in Jesus,

to grow your kingdom here on earth

and draw us ever near.

Jesus planted mercy wherever he went,

to reap a greater righteousness.

He shared bread with outcasts and sinners

and healed the brokenhearted.

We thank you that on the night before he died for us

Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks to you,

he broke it, gave to this friends, and said,

“Take, eat, this is my body, broken for you.

Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessings,

gave it to his friends, and said, “Drink this, all of you:

this cup is the new covenant in my blood,

poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sin.

Do this for the remembrance of me.”

Remembering his dying and rising,

we offer you this bread and cup,

and ourselves in grateful service.

Page 6: Christ Presbyterian Church

Pour out your Spirit upon these gifts

and all your people here today.

Breathe your Spirit over all creation

that together we may cultivate peace

in every corner of the world.

Then bring us to that blessed mountain

where with the meek and pure in heart

we will live forever in blessedness

as we taste the fruits of heaven.

Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ,

by the inspiration of your Life-giving Spirit,

we worship you, Creating God,

in songs of endless praise.

Blessed are you, now and forever. Amen.

Summer Youth Opportunities! We are praying for you and your families during this me: for your health, your transion into a very

different daily life, and any anxiees you may have. Please reach out with anything you might need!

We’re on Zoom!

Other Youth Opportunities: Weekly Family Resource: Emailed for families to use in place of Sunday School or

throughout the week *Look for updates about additional opportunities as we learn more about what

the school year will look like. Email [email protected] to be added to our contact list.

CPC IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION! And so are we!

God is always working on us and through us!

Throughout the summer kids at CPC ages 3-7th grade will receive summer activity packs with a decidedly construction theme to them! These packets will be mailed every other week and include a devotion for that week’s scripture story with a tie in to what is happening with our construction here at the church and a craft. Keep your eyes out for yours!

Kids Zoom Meet Ups for our preschoolers and grade school students will continue through out the summer. Next Zoom meet up will be on July 28th. The 3—K time is 11:00 and the 1st—5th grade is at 1:00. The link will be emailed out a day or two prior.

I came across this great family devotional resource that I wanted to share with our families. Each month I’ll be sending home a packet with sheets for each week that families can use to grow their faith together at home. The Scripture follows the Lectionary so the first Sunday reading for the week will follow our

readings during Worship. Each week offers new verses, prayers, devotions conversation starters, and family activities. I hope that this resource helps provide families a springboard to keep having family faith time at home! If you know of a family who would like to receive these monthly packets, just let me know and I’ll gladly add them to the mailing!
