Come along with us back to a time when Prague, led by an extraordinary statesman, visionary and scholar, become the cultural and intellectual centre of Europe. Charles IV (1316–1378) 14 May – 25 September 2016 / Wallenstein Riding School / A Bavarian-Czech exhibition will present Charles IV as the extraordinary personage of European political and cultural history he truly was. One of the aims of the exhibition is to depict Charles IV free of the distorting accumulated layers of ideological prejudice and to offer the public an all-round portrayal of this historical figure with his positive and darker facets. The exhibition will feature some 170 exhibits across the whole range of artistry and craſtsmanship, as well as culturally-historical and archival documents, on loan from over a hundred of the most prestigious European and American museums, churches and private collections. We shall have the first ever opportunity to see the coronation crown that symbolizes the elevation of Charles IV to Head of the Holy Roman Empire. Charles IV 1316–2016 When All Roads Led to Prague

2016 will mark 700 years from the birth of Charles IV – one of the key personages of European history. In connection with this remarkable anniversary a number of special events will take place in Prague. Come along with us back to a time when Prague, led by an extraordinary statesman, visionary and scholar, become the cultural and intellectual centre of Europe.

Winter EventsVilla Rothmayerfrom 1 October / Villa Rothmayer / The City of Prague Museum has opened Otto Rothmayer’s own villa to the public. This masterpiece of modern 20th century architecture can now be viewed at a reduced price, together with another distinctive architectural memento – the nearby Villa Müller.

Middle Kingdomfrom 23 October / Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American cultures / The exhibition presents the little-known period of China’s history from the 3rd century AD to the end of the Ming dynasty in the early part of the 17th century. On display will be one of the TOP sculptural artefacts held by the National Museum – The Bodhisattva of Compassion.
