CHRISTMAS EVE

Many families decorate their houses with little figures representing the birth of Jesus and some others with a Christmas tree.

Families have dinner together. It is typical to eat turkey, suckling pig or little lamb.

At night, catholics go to a mass to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Catholics get up to go to mass at 12:30 in the morning. This tradition is becoming less and less popular. After the mass ,all the family members have a drink in different bars. After that, they go home to have lunch together in the their houses. The typical meal includes: fish soup, suckling pig or little lamb. The dessert is usually nougat and shortbread. There a very famous brand of shortbread from Tordesillas: “ El Toro De La Vega Shortbread”.

Three Kings’ Day

It is celebrated on 6.January. On 5 January at night children prepare glasses of milk and biscuits for the kings. They prepare water for the camels too. Children get excited and it is dificult for them to sleep.

In the morning children get up and run to find the presents under the christmas tree. They unwrap the presents and they play with their new toys.

In the afternoon families have lunch together and for dessert they eat “roscón”, a type of cake with cream with a little surprise in it.
