I was up early study- ing for the morning sermon and class, spending time in prayer as I did every Sunday morning. I would rehearse my sermon at home many times in preparation for the worship service. Someone once ask me, “How many sermons have you preached?” My reply at that time was, “I have preached about 500 sermons”. My daughter Morgan (age 10) was standing beside me and she replied “oh no! He has preached way more than that!’ I hear them at home at least 3 times before church every Sunday morning.” At just 10 years old Morgan had already heard a life time of sermons and was determined that she was ready to be baptized into Christ. So I ask her to write a letter to herself as to; why she needed to be baptized, what she would receive from it and why was baptism important to her. After reading her response there was no way that Margaret and I could not rejoice with her and help fulfill her desire to be a baptized believer and have the Lord add her to the Church. That morning, I, as a very proud father with my wife Margaret and the whole congregation as wit- nesses baptized her into Christ for the remission of her sins and she received the gift of the Holy Spirit. June 3 rd has become a day of celebration in our family, a birthday celebration. Morgan is now twenty years old and the remembrance of what she did on that day is still very near and dear to her heart. But to her what God did on that day is even more important. He accepted her confes- sion of belief “that Jesus is Lord”. He cleansed her soul of sin and has been with her in Spirit each and every day. Morgan is now in college and a very active member of the “Kats for Christ” a group sponsored by Huntsville Church of Christ at Sam Houston State University. I believe it is important to remember what the Lord has done and to remember the commitments we have made to Him. I believe that the day we are “born again” is worthy of remembrance and celebration. This week, may we each make a point to remem- ber our obedience to the gospel. Let’s make sure the events of that day shall not have been in vain! Day of Celebration

June 3rd, 2007, started off like any other Sunday in

the life of a preacher and his family. I was up early study-

ing for the morning sermon and class, spending time in

prayer as I did every Sunday morning. I would rehearse my

sermon at home many times in preparation for the worship

preached about 500 sermons”. My daughter Morgan (age

preached way more than that!’ I hear them at home at least

3 times before church every Sunday morning.” At just 10

years old Morgan had already heard a life time of sermons

and was determined that she was ready to be baptized into

Christ. So I ask her to write a letter to herself as to; why

she needed to be baptized, what she would receive from it

and why was baptism important to her.

After reading her response there was no way that

Margaret and I could not rejoice with her and help fulfill

her desire to be a baptized believer and have the Lord add

her to the Church. That morning, I, as a very proud father

with my wife Margaret and the whole congregation as wit-

nesses baptized her into Christ for the remission of her sins

and she received the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Page 3: Church of Christ Deer Park · 2019-01-07 · Larry Renfrow, who is awaiting kidney & pancreas transplant fell and broke his shoulder. Karen Aldridge, Marilyn Vinson’s daughter,

Been reading a lot about LOVE and the worlds

few of love verses God’s view lately, it has been inter-

esting. When I look at how much I love my wife and

my kids, I know it doesn’t even come close to the

amount of love God has for His people. God’s love is

so much different than man’s love.

God’s love is eternal, man’s is emotional.

Since the beginning, God has loved His people and

has proven that throughout the entire Bible. Paul tells

us that because God loved us, he chose us to be

adopted into the name of Jesus Christ before the foun-

dations of the world were even set. (Eph. 1:4-5). He

has always loved us and will continue to love us.

However, we love based on emotion. We love what-

ever is making us feel good. Think of the things that

you don’t love anymore because the love “just went

away.” We need to learn to love like God loves. God

looks at us even in our darkest times and continues to

show His love for us.

God’s love is selfless, man’s is selfish. God’s

love for His people drove Him to send His only Son

to die on earth as a criminal (John 3:16). He gave up

everything so that you and I can have hope of eternal

life. In most relationships, each side of the couple is

in it for some sort of self-satisfaction. Maybe it’s

physical or emotional needs. Maybe it’s the need to

feel wanted or maybe it’s the feeling of security.

Whatever it is, we as humans look for love so that we

can have our own wants fulfilled.

Let us learn to love like God loves. Love is

the greatest gift that God has given us. Let us share it

with those closest to us. Hope your summer is off to a

good start. Todd
