WEEKLY STEWARDSHIP REPORT
June 16, 2019 The Most Holy Trinity
Sunday
But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will
guide you to all truth...
John 16:13
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to help us know
and live the truth. To prepare ourselves, we
need to open our hearts to receive this gift
before we can give it. Develop a daily prayer
routine. Talk and listen to the Holy Spirit.
This is best done in silence, when we can
hear His response.

Desarrolla
una rutina diaria de oración. Habla y escucha al
Espíritu Santo. Esto se hace mejor en silencio,
cuando podemos escuchar su respuesta.

Annie Bullock (Director of RCIA, Coordinator of High School Youth Ministry) grew up in Spokane, WA, a small city
near the WashingtonIdaho border. She was raised in Baptist and evangelical churches and attended a small evangelical
college in Northern California. After college, she and her husband, Joe, relocated to Atlanta so that she could study at
Emory University. She earned a Master’s in Theological Studies (2001) and a PhD in Religion (2010) with an emphasis
in the history of Christianity. The family relocated to Austin in 2008 so that Joe could pursue his graduate work in
Philosophy at the University of Texas. Annie taught courses in theology, spirituality, and history parttime at St.
Edward’s University, Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest until she
took her first job teaching high school and knew she had found her true calling working with teenagers. She happily
taught Apologetics to 11th grade students at Regents School of Austin for six years. Shortly after leaving Regents to take
a position at Hyde Park, Joe and Annie decided it was time for their family to come into the Church. They were
confirmed as Catholics on December 3, 2017 after many years of discernment. Together with their three children, they
have been active members of St. Theresa's in Austin. [email protected]

Heather Smith (Cantor) brings years of vocal training and choral experience to the Music Coordinator position. She has
been an active member of the music ministry, volunteering with each choir group and assisting with the junior
choir. She, along with her husband and two teenage children have been parishioners of Emmaus since 2016. Heather
looks forward to assisting the music director and serving the parish. [email protected]

Stacie Massey (Coordinator of Communications and Scheduling) lives in the Spicewood area with her husband Troy and
their three daughters, Jeannette, Grace and Leigha. She grew up in Corpus Christi and came to Austin to attend St.
Edward's University where shegraduated with a degree in Communications. She has been an active member of the
Emmaus Catholic Parish for the past 11 years. She began working in the church nursery in 2008 and then transitioned
to the Emmaus Early Childhood Preschool, working first as a teacher then as the Assistant Director. She is excited to
take on her new role in the church office as the coordinator of communications and scheduling.

Paula Hundl (Coordinator of Development and Senior Adult Ministry) moved to Lakeway Texas in July of 2017 to follow
her husband with his job relocation to Austin. Her background includes fundraising, sales, administration and
education. Emmaus Catholic Parish quickly became a welcoming home to this new Texan. She enjoys volunteering
with Gala and other events at the church. She grew up in Virginia and graduated from Catawba College in North
Carolina with a degree in Business Administration. She worked in Panama for four years as a civilian for a Brigadier
General in the United States Army and experienced life in a different culture and country. Her family has lived in
South Carolina, Northern Virginia, Oklahoma and now Texas following her husband’s career path. She have two sons
at the University of Oklahoma and a daughter who attends Lake Travis High School. [email protected]

Fr. Barry Cuba (Parochial Vicar) was born in Austin, Texas and attended James Bowie High School, during which time he
also worked in various positions in sales and operations at H.E.B. Grocery. After high school, he entered Holy Trinity
Seminary and completed undergraduate studies at the University of Dallas followed by graduate studies at St. Mary's
Seminary in Houston and the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He was ordained a priest on June 8,
2013.While completing his studies, Fr. Barry served as an officer in the Navy Reserve. Some of his past assignments
include: Naval Station Newport, RI, Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in
Houston, St. Mary's Catholic Center at Texas A&M University, and San José parish in Austin.Fr.Barrymost recently
served at St. Margaret Mary parish in Cedar Park. [email protected]

Happy Father’s Day St. Joseph
About 5 years ago, I committed myself to a St. Joseph
Novena. I had never given much thought to this pivotal
player in salvation history. The novena brought awareness to who this father of Jesus was. Yes, a carpenter
and the foster father to our Savior, but also the virginal husband of Mary, the faithful servant and protector
of the Divine Child, the Head of the Holy Family, patron of the Church, patron of Workers… his titles are
many.
My favorite images of the Holy Family have Jesus as a chubby baby, and Joseph in awe of the Child
and the Mother. He may be depicted as admiring the beauty of his family or he may be portrayed asleep
with Jesus in his arms. Regardless, he is completely present in mind, body and soul. Often he is a step or two
beyond his beloveds, quietly and patiently pondering. Surely he was in constant prayer having surrendered
his life to the will of God.
I see similarities with my dad. Age has mellowed him in beautiful ways. Like St. Joseph, he has
surrendered out of necessity and wisdom. He possesses a patience and tenderness I have only seen in difficult
times. He shares his regrets, but quickly appreciates all the events and people in his life. Just as St. Joseph
undoubtedly shared in the struggles of Jesus, so my dad has shared in the struggles of his children.
I see my husband, the father of our children, growing into the likeness of St. Joseph. He is supportive
and patient. Often, I notice him a step or two beyond the actions of our family, yet fully present. I appreciate
the father my husband has become and know in time he will become even more like the earthly father of
Jesus. As daughter and wife, I will never cease to be amazed at the beauty that God creates in our willingness
to be our best, and I expect you too can easily find St. Joseph in your father, husband, brothers and sons.
By Yvonne Howington

Oh,St. Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you, andJesusasleep in
your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart.

return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath.

CHANGE A CHILD’S LIFE!
Sr. Magdalena is coming back to visit Emmaus the
weekend of June 23, 2019.
Sr. Magdalena Chubwa is a Catholic nun from the
Congregation of the Daughters of Mary, Tabora,
Tanzania. She was born and raised in a small rural
village in Tanzania, Africa. She established the
JUDEA FOUNDATION (Justice and Development
for All). Inclusive of all religions, tribes, genders and
backgrounds, this organization is dedicated to
promoting health, education, elder care, and
entrepreneurship.
To address the numerous obstacles to getting an
education in Tanzania, the JUDEA foundation has
begun an educational initiative. Books, uniforms,
and fees will be provided, as will supplementary
instruction where needed. Additionally, safe and
supervised lodging will be supplied in cases where
schools are too distant to reach
in one day’s walk.
Today the JUDEA Foundation
coordinates a “sponsora
student” program.
Please visit with Sr. Magdalena
after Masses next weekend to
learn more.

Usually when a man introduces himself as a knight, he
follows up by inviting you to consider becoming a
Knight or to buy:
a raffle ticket or holiday nuts
to come to Lenten Fish Fry Suppers and Bingo
or to buy a ticket to our Wine Tasting Event
However, our Knights Council would like to take this
opportunity to say “thank you” to all Emmaus parishioners as
well as members of our community for supporting and
giving generously to our fundraisers this past year. As a result
of your kindness this year we have been able to make
donations in your name in excess of $23,000 to various
charities, seminarian support, missions, college scholarships.
None of this would have been possible without your help and
your support of our council! We would also like to say “thank you” to Fr. Samuel Hose for allowing us to be a
part of this parish. Several months ago Fr. Samuel asked parishioners to contribute to the 4x4 part of the
Capital Campaign. Since all Knights in our Council are parishioners of this parish, we felt our council should
stand in unity with our priest and also do our part in support of the Capital Campaign.
As a result of the generous support of our parishioners this past year, Knights of Columbus
Council 14025 is pleased to be able to make a donation in the amount of $10,000 for the Capital
Campaign.
