Overview
When using SAVI charts, maps, tables or other data, you must cite SAVI as well as SAVI’s source provider. Source
provider information can always be found on the About The Data tab.
Citing SAVI in MLA Format
Maps
o Format: Author or statement of responsibility. Map Title. [Map]. Data date if known. Scale; Name of
person who generated map; Name of software used to generate the map or “Title of the Complete
Document or Site”. < URL > (date generated).
o Example: U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey. 2014 Total Population – People by
Counties. [Map]. 2014. Scale Undetermined; Generated by Dustin Dowell; The SAVI Community
Information System, The Polis Center. < http://www.savi.org>

Citing SAVI in APA Format
APA calls for one standard for citing Graphic Data
o Format: Name of Researching Organization. (year). [brief explanation of what type of data is there and
what form it appears]. Project Name. Retrieved from URL
o Example:
