Civil Engineering – 1 Year Option (S5 or S6) Pupils will attend Forth Valley College or a local secondary school for 12 hours per week, which will be the equivalent of two full days. During the course pupils will also spend up to two weeks in a work placement with an employer, and/or spend time working on an Industry Challenge project. Civil Engineering – 2 Year Option (S5 & S6) Pupils will attend Forth Valley College or a local secondary school for six hours per week for both years of the course (this is likely to be two half days). During the course you will also spend up to two weeks in a work placement with an employer, and/or spend time working on an Industry Challenge project. Please note that this course continues throughout periods of study leave from school and it is very important that pupils attend during these periods, except on exam days. Foundation Apprenticeship

- Civil Engineering

This Foundation Apprenticeship in Civil

Engineering could be the building block pupils

need for a career in the industry and is a

great way to get hands-on experience and

also gain a qualification at the same level as a

Higher. Pupils will have the unique chance to

develop skills and knowledge across a range

of civil engineering topics in several learning

environments, including the classroom and

practical fieldwork, alongside the experience

of a valuable work placement with an

employer.

What are Foundation

Apprenticeships?

• Designed for S5 & S6 pupils

staying on at school

• A new qualification to study

alongside National 5s and Highers

• Can be picked as a subject choice

and is at the same level as a Higher

Where could it lead to?

UNIVERSITYCOLLEGE GET A JOBMODERN APPRENTICESHIPS

• Possible accelerated entry onto the second year of a Modern Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering Contracting or Civil Engineering Consultancy

• Application for a Graduate Level Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering

• Higher level study at college on HNC Civil Engineering

• Progressing straight into a job in the con-struction sector

• Opening up future avenues for international work and travel, as qualifications are interna-tionally recognised

• Using the Foundation Apprenticeship along-side Highers to apply to university

Who should apply for a Foundation Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering?• Pupils will probably be working towards

achieving one or two Highers over S5 and S6 and their school will need to confirm that they are ready to study at Higher level

• Pupils should be working towards at least National 5 in Maths, English and a technical or science subject in S5 and be predicted to pass these courses at grade C or above

What qualifications will pupils achieve?

On successful completion, pupils will achieve

a Foundation Apprenticeship (Group Award) in

Civil Engineering at SCQF Level 6 (the same

level as a Higher), which includes:

• A National Certificate in Civil Engineering at

SCQF Level 6 (this course consists of 12

units)

• A work-based unit from the SVQ in Civil

Engineering (SCQF Level 6)

Foundation Apprenticeships are currently accepted as entry requirements for courses at:

• Abertay University

• Glasgow Caledonian University

• Heriot-Watt University

• Queen Margaret University

• Robert Gordon University

• University of Aberdeen

• University of Dundee

• University of Glasgow

• University of Stirling

• University of the Highlands and Islands

• University of West of Scotland
