Small Things Can Make a Big Difference

• “We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily difference we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.”

What Is Earth Day About?

• Earth Day is an annual day on which events are held worldwide to show support for environmental protection. Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 each year. At our school, we are celebrating Earth Day today, and will be involved in day long school yard ‘greening’ activities.

10 Reasons Why We need to take care of Our World, and How to do it.

Page 5: Clinton Street Public School Earth Day Assembly April 19 th, 2013

REASON #1: To show the world your good side

Your attitude towards the environment says something about your personality to other people. Doing little things like placing your garbage in the proper bins gives others the impression that you are a responsible, caring person!

Reason #2: Saves you money!!!

Most green actions are designed to reduce energy consumption and reuse existing resources. Energy is expensive, and using less of it can save your family a lot of money.

Reason #3: Smog is gross!!Nobody wants to live in a world filled with smog. It’s hard to breathe, it smells bad, and it causes health problems. It’s just plain gross. The more we can reduce, reuse and recycle, the more we can help with this problem!

Reason #4: Landfills are disgusting!

• Most things that are thrown into the trash are headed directly to a landfill, and we throw out a lot of trash everyday! If you don’t like the idea of landfills being everywhere, taking care of our environment is the only way to go.

Reason #5: Think of our beautiful beaches!• Beaches are disappearing. Trash is spreading into even

the most remote corners of the world. If we don’t stop it, many of our current beaches will disappear. So, try to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible, and use fewer products made out of plastic and more that are biodegradable (that means they break down when they are exposed to air, water and sunlight).

Reason #6: Polar Bears are cute!• Polar Ice Caps, where Polar Bears live, are melting

away because our world is warming up. This is known as Global Warming. We can stop this by reducing our use of energy, turning off our lights as much as possible, and using natural sunlight instead!

Reason #7: Unnatural stuff isn’t healthy

• Eating natural foods and using natural products is better for our health and the health of our environment. A lot of unnatural stuff that we are exposed to everyday can make us sick.

Reason #9: Riding a bike and walking are fun!

Riding a bike, taking a walk, and using your body instead of driving in a car can do a lot to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These things will also improve your health!

Reason # 10: Save the World, Improve your lifestyle

• Would you rather change a light bulb once a year or once every ten years? If you chose ten years, switch to LED lighting. It will save you money too!

Thank You!!!• Thank you to all the Eco-Reps and classes

who have been helping to ‘green’ our school yard, manage our school waste, and help our school conserve energy!!! Without you, our school would not be able to reach its dream of being GREEN!!

Clinton has a dream and it’s green!!
