Cloudsoft worked with Cloudera to create a single-click Hadoop cluster builder. The tool creates a standardized test environment for Cloudera’s Certified Technology partners, and has significantly reduced Cloudera’s partner validation workload.

ClOudera Cluster Builder

Cloudera, a provider of Hadoop software, operates the ‘Cloudera Certified Technology’ program to provide assurance to customers that partners solutions have been tested and validated against CDH (Cloudera’s Distribution of Apache Hadoop). However, creating clusters to test partner’s software was a time consuming, manual process.

Cloudera wished to develop a tool which partners could use to create and deploy a standardised test cluster, allowing self-test and self-validation. The tool would have to be ‘push button simple’ and capable of deploying a cluster to the partner’s choice of cloud provider.

Working together, Cloudera and Cloudsoft leveraged Brooklyn - the open source application management plane led by Cloudsoft - to rapidly develop a tool that met Cloudera’s needs.

The tool is now available to download1 from Cloudera’s website.

As a result of this work Cloudera has been able to greatly simplify their partner onboarding process, reducing work for their partners and their verification team, and easing entry into the Cloudera Hadoop ecosystem.

On opening the tool a user selects their prefered public cloud, enters credentials, and clicks ‘Deploy Cluster’.

This starts a Brooklyn management process that automatically deploys and configures a Cloudera Hadoop cluster, continuing to monitor the cluster while in use.

Clicking ‘View Console’ shows the Brooklyn activity.
