USAID PAKISTAN READING PROJECT

Community Managed Reading (CMR) Grants GuidelinesAnnex 1

Closing Date and Time: On Rolling-Basis

USAID Pakistan Reading Project www.pakreading.org USAID Pakistan Reading Project IntroductionUSAID Pakistan Reading Project is a five year project supported by the Government of Pakistan and funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The goal of USAID Pakistan Reading Project is to improve the quality of reading by supporting at least 2.5 million additional primary school students to read at a level commensurate with standards at their grade level. The IRC with its consortium partners will implement the project in eight regions/provinces: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Punjab and Baluchistan.

Reading is a fundamental component of learning: students who do not learn to read at initial grade levels, they tend to fall behind in all other areas of cognitive development. The lack of public discourse about reading has made reading a low priority in classrooms, homes, and communities.

Community Managed Reading GrantsTo overcome the above mentioned issue, USAID Pakistan Reading Project will be awarding grants to eligible Community Based Organizations (CBOs), Parent Teacher Associations, School Management Committees, Student Groups, and other education-focused stakeholder groups under its Small Grants Program for Community Managed Reading Grants. The overall purpose of the Community Managed Reading (CMR) Grants is to fund Pakistani organizations/associations/committees to promote a culture of reading in Pakistan by working with local communities to promote and embrace the importance of reading and engage communities in demanding quality education.

Eligibility, Funding Range & Duration of CMR GrantsCommunity Based Organizations (CBOs), Parent Teacher Associations, School Management Committees, Student Groups, and other education-focused stakeholder groups are eligible for this grant. The funding range shall not exceed PKR. 196,500/- (USD 2,000) for single applicant and PKR. 491,250/- (USD 5,000) for partnership applicants with a varying duration from 3 months to 1 Year.

This funding will be subject to all applicable USAID rules and regulations. All USAID branding and marking regulations will apply. In case of eligible applicants exceeding the number of grants offered, applications will be treated on first come first serve basis. USAID Pakistan Reading Project reserves the right to fund any or none of the applications submitted. The CMR grant is open to unsolicited proposals on a rolling basis; therefore no deadlines are applicable on CMR funding. CMR Grants will be stopped when the quota is exhausted.
