Key concepts: Drop zones and nesting
Crosstab edge cells have four drop zones: one on each side, one at the top of the cell, and one at the bottom of the cell.
Use the crosstab drop zones to add data items as parents, peers, or children of other items in the crosstab.

One place for everything users no longer need to take into
account the type of underlying data source or package (e.g., OLAP
vs Relational) before selecting a working environment.
More functionality for power users empowers them to create
complex, rich, professional looking reports without the complexity
of Report Studio
Bridging gap between power users and professional report
authors - general user experience of CWA is reflective of the
Professional Authoring environment positioning it as a natural and
intuitive stepping stone to Report Studio
Integrating external data - ability to upload and integrate local
data from user’s own spreadsheets on-the-fly and merge it with
data from existing packages
Compatibility with Report Studio - cross compatibility between
reports developed in the two environments

Query Studio to Workspace Advanced Gaps
While Workspace Advanced has most of the capabilities of Query Studio, we are aware
that the some critical capabilities are still missing. These are the gaps we are intending
to fill in the next release:
• Page header special text (Filter, sort and suppression text)
• Templates with page header , footer and special text support
• Filter attributes on lists
• Drill through from Cognos Workspace Advanced
• Filter on group summaries
• Number of days filter
• Aggregate options: Ranking Median, Standard Deviation, Variance, Count Distinct, Calculated
and None in Calculation dialog.
• Filter on custom groups
• Framework Manager prompt information properties
Query Studio asset will be editable in Workspace Advanced and will yield an excellent
result - that is, it would look and behave the same and be maintainable.

Analysis Studio to Workspace Advanced Gaps
We are aware that the some critical capabilities are still missing. These are the gaps we are expecting to fill in the
next release:
Independent drill with nested or stacked edge items*
Move replaced edge items to the context bar to retain the current context**
Many arithmetic functions such as rank( ).
Page header special text (Data Source Name or PowerCube Build Date)
* A very simple use case. A crosstab with Product line and Order method nested on the rows. Drill down on Product line. In
Analysis Studio, Order method is maintained in the crosstab. Currently, in Cognos Workspace Advanced, Order method is
dropped from the crosstab. The Analysis Studio behavior is correct and needs to be replicated.
** A simple use case. A crosstab with Product line on the rows. Drill down on Camping Equipment. Drag Order method into the
crosstab to replace Order method. Analysis Studio will move Camping Equipment to the Content Bar to retain the context.
Currently, Cognos Workspace Advanced does not so the context is lost. The Analysis Studio behavior is correct and needs to
be replicated.
Customers have indicated these items are not critical and therefore we are not intending to fill these gaps in the next
major release:
More, subtitle in/excluded
Linked chart and crosstab
Switch between chart and crosstab
Show attributes
Expand/collapse are member operations rather than set operations
Glossary
We are not intending that users edit existing analysis assets in Cognos Workspace Advanced.
Rather, users will be able to run all existing Analysis Studio assets from the portal and create new
analyses as required.

Q&A
Q. Formal deprecation?A. Yes. Announced in the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence V10.2.2 Announcement Letter posted 7 Oct 2014.
Q. How long will IBM Cognos Business Intelligence 10.2.2 be supported?A. Until at least October 2018.
Q. Will Query Studio and Analysis Studio be available in any release after IBM Cognos Business Intelligence 10.2.2?A. No, IBM Cognos Business Intelligence 10.2.2 is the last release with these studios.
Q. What guidance do we give Query Studio and Analysis Studio users?A. Existing content is executable via Cognos Connection or Cognos Workspace.
Q. Should I be moving my users to Cognos Workspace Advanced now or wait for a future (post 10.2.2 release)?A. Depends. Workspace Advanced is a good landing zone for Query Studio users. Analysis Studio users may
find more substantial gaps in Workspace Advanced but should use it for any new analysis.
Q. Will Workspace Advanced provide the same user experience as Query Studio and Analysis Studio?A. No. Future Workspace Advanced development will focus on providing an efficient, modern interface in which
users can perform both query and analysis.
Q. Can my users move existing saved queries and analyses to Cognos Workspace Advanced?A. Yes, but this is may not be best route forward as Cognos Workspace Advanced and the other studios are
very different, especially with Analysis Studio. We recommend creating new content in Cognos Workspace Advanced. Existing content will always be preserved, but will serve best as heritage content which can be run and consumed but may be overly challenging to modify.
