Call to Worship Leader: This is the Lord's Day, the day of wonder and grace. People: This is the day to worship the One who calls us here. Leader: This is the Lord's Day, the day we are given joy and peace. People: This is the day promised to us, the day of healing and renewal. Leader: This is the Lord's Day, and it has come just in time! People: This is the day we gather with hope, with faith, with love!

*Hymn - “Holy God We Praise Your Name” GTG #611 *Prayer of Confession Leader: When we remember all the mistakes we have made, all the careless words we have spoken, all the contempt we have given to those around us, we have trouble looking God in the eye. But God gazes at us with mercy and love, waiting to forgive us, even as we hesitate to speak of the brokenness of our hearts. Join me as we pray, saying, ALL: Again we must confess, Master of the Universe, our struggles to be faithful disciples. Entrusted with all your gifts, we become fearful once again of misusing them, missing the chance to be a blessing to others. Invited to dance in the light of your love, we stand against the wall once again, keeping company with our old friend, sin. Called to be emptied for those who struggle in life, we fill ourselves once again, with scorn for the poor choices they make.

Have mercy, Journeying God, have mercy on us. Once again, open our eyes to your kingdom in our midst, so we might discover that your day of hope and grace has already come in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Silence is kept

* Words of Assurance Leader: This is the good news: God intends for us to find life, to em brace hope, to receive forgiveness through Jesus Christ, our Servant. People: The end of our journey is not rejection and emptiness, but the fullness of grace and hope in our God. Thanks be to God, we are forgiven. Amen. *Response “You are Holy” Congregation join in the (ECHO)

You are Holy (You are Holy) You are Mighty (You are Mighty) You are Worthy (You are Worthy) ALL: Worthy of praise. I will follow (I will follow) I will listen (I will listen) I will love you (I will love you) ALL: All of my days.

*Sharing of the Peace Leader: The peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you.

PROCLAIM GOD’S WORD

Children’s Sermon (Children in Pre-K-2nd grade will follow Mrs. Kolecki out and can be picked up in Calvin Hall)

Anthem Psalm 90:1-12 (responsive) Leader: To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the

heavens! People: As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as

the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, until he has mercy upon us.

Leader: Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us, for we have had more than enough of contempt.

People: Our soul has had more than its fill of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud.

*Hymn - “God Whose Giving Knows No Ending” - GTG #716 Gospel Lesson - Matthew 25: 14-30 Sermon - Economy of Fear Ms. Laura Collee, Haddonfield Presbyterian Church

RESPONSE TO THE WORD

*Affirmation of Faith - Brief Statement of Faith PCUSA

We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, heal-ing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel.

Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was cruci-fied, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal.

Offering

“Our inheritance from God evokes our thankfulness, and our gratitude in-spires us to share the gifts we have received. Let us bring our tithes and offer-ings to extend the possibilities for reconciliation and peace.”

Musical Meditation

Song of Dedication - “Give Thanks With A Grateful Heart” STF #2036

“Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One, give thanks because he’s given Jesus Christ his Son. And now let the weak say, “I am strong”; let the poor say, “I am rich because of what the Lord has done for us.” Give thanks!”

Page 7: Collingswood Presbyterian Church · 2012-11-11 · COLLINGSWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SERVICE FOR THE LORD’S DAY November 16, 2014 33nd Sunday in Ordinary Time ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S

*Prayer of Dedication

Prayers of the People Leader: The Lord be with you People: And also with you. Leader: Let us pray. Prayers of thanksgiving, intercession, petition,

and the Lord’s Prayer. All: Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

GO IN GOD’S NAME *Hymn - “Come Sing, O Church, In Joy” GTG # 305 *Benediction *Choral Response *Postlude

WELCOME We welcome Ms. Laura Collee to our church today. Pastor

graduate of Princeton Theological seminary and is an adjunct

professor at Eastern Theological Seminary in Philadelphia.

“The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose”

Hada Bejar Nothing is more attractive than sharing with others. No trait will be admired as much as generosity. There is no surer way to gain the respect of friends and neighbors than to show by what we give that we care about others. We can give many things besides money, shelter, clothing, or food to those in need. We can give the rich person love and un-derstanding that money can’t buy. We can sympathize with those who are troubled, even though they appear wealthier than ourselves. We can share experience, strength, and hope with those who are ill or unhappy. We can even share our suffering with others who surer, and hold up a light for them on the road to recovery. What do I have to give today? Be sure to write on one of the leaves something, sometime

or some person you are thankful for and hang on the Thanksgiving tree in the narthex. Give thanks!!!

Session Highlights The Session met on its regularly scheduled date, Monday

November 9, 2014. Pastor Kate began the meeting with the de-votional study “ Transformation Leaders- Mission and Minis-try.” We discussed ways our congregation may reach out to the community and welcome visitors in our midst.

We review the reports of the Pastor and the Deacons minutes. Both Pastor and Deacons are working hard to care for our mem-bers - ill and homebound as well as reaching out with cards and flowers. Deacons are making food for shut-ins in Camden for thanksgiving.

Jeff Hirt, chair of Finance and Stewardship reported that the Po-ny Express Campaign was well received and we had lots of fund! All the pony express bags made it back to the church and the estimates of giving are being counted now. Please turn yours in if you haven't already. We all need all to support the Lord’s ministry.

Mike Amato, chair of Property reported that we are making re-pairs to the building to insure greater safety for our children. Plans for additional handicapped parking were approved.

Jennifer Giordano, chair of Congregational Life, reported that plans are in the making for the Christmas luncheon. Helpers are needed to decorate and set up the lunch- December 21.

Pastor Kate reported for the Worship Music and Arts committee. Plans are in the works for Advent and Christmas worship.

Christian Education co-chair Karen Schuehler reported that plans are moving forward for a pre school here at CPC next year. Members of session will attend the Collingswood Zoning Board meeting in December to seek Borough approval.

Lorrie Heuser requested and received permission to upgrade the library in Calvin Hall. Ideas are welcomed!

We prayed for members of our congregation and our families who are ill and struggling.
