plants, persons and miscellanea, a bibliography which in cludes manuscripts and unpublished sources as well as prin ted works, notes and appendices, a list of illustrations with the botanical name of each plant and the name of the bota nist who first published it. For collections with an interest in graphics, botanical illustration or beautiful books.

The fourth issue of an annual bibliography of exhibition and sales catalogues, periodicals, newspapers and books covers late nineteenth and twentieth century art and artists. There are two sections, artist and subject, plus an index. The cross-references and index citations are incon

sistent and while the premise of a one-volume annual inter national bibliography is a good one, the result is unsuc cessful.

This reprint discusses the development of fans in the Orient, the eighteenth century and the Victorian era, the art of

fan-painting and fan-collecting. The black and white illus trations are very unclear and the text needless to say is out of-date; however, the book may interest those with historic costume-textile collections.

Recent progress in the area of comparative and interna tional library science encouraged John Harvey to compile the work of seventeen contributors. A noteworthy essay is by Judith A. Hoffberg (Executive Secretary of ARLIS/NA) whose "Art Library Science: A Fresh Start" discusses the growth and development of art librarianship on an international basis.
