“The Westmoreland County Agricultural Land Preservation Program was established in 1990 to conserve and protect agricultural lands by acquiring voluntary agricultural conservation easements to prevent the loss of productive agricultural land. The Westmoreland County program has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, and operates within the guidelines of the Agricultural Security Areas Law (Act of June 30.1981, P.L. 128, No.43). Over 80,000 acres are enrolled in Agricultural Security Areas in 21 townships and over 3,000 acres have been enrolled under an Agricultural Conservation Easement in perpetuity. The WCALP Program also promotes Clean & Green Preferential Tax Assessment, Pennsylvania’s Century and Bicentennial Farm Program and the Preserved Farm Resource Center.”
