A BRAND NEW AUSTRALIAN ADVENTURE IS IN THE MAKING

Our brand new ship is built to take you closer to unspoilt vistas in comfort, style and safety. A culmination of two years of design and three decades of passion for expedition cruising – Coral Expeditions is proud to invite you to experience the Coral Adventurer.

A QUIET PIONEER

For 34 years, Coral Expeditions has been true to its small ship expedition cruising roots. With little advertising and mostly word of mouth loyalty, we have been refining the art of small ship cruising. Now we have put all our knowledge and the very latest in shipbuilding technology into our fourth expedition ship – the Coral Adventurer.

BIGGER IS NOT BETTER

At a time when cruise ships get larger and glitzier, we remain stubbornly compact and intimate. Our ships are designed to take you to unspoilt destinations not accessible to large ships. We want you to have the luxury of space, dine with whom you please, or find your quiet corner on deck. So we have limited the Coral Adventurer to 60 spacious cabins. This preserves the intimate atmosphere we are known for without sacrificing the stability and comfort of a true ocean going vessel.

BUILT FOR DISCOVERY

The Coral Adventurer features our trademark dual ‘Xplorer’ tenders cradled on a hydraulic platform slung off the back of the ship, enabling our guests to go ashore in comfort and ease. The shallow draft of the ship enables us to go closer to shore than larger ships. Together with our renowned expedition team, our new ship will offer the most advanced expedition capabilities of any small ship afloat.

BUILT FOR COMFORT

With active stabilisers dampening sea motion, mostly balcony cabins, and interiors designed with the colours and textures of tropical Queensland, the Coral Adventurer is a comfortable ship. She features promenade decks, generous communal areas that accommodate all guests, a passenger elevator, and an open kitchen where you can observe our chefs whip up small batch cuisine from locally sourced ingredients.

BUILT FOR PERSONAL SERVICE

The Coral Adventurer will continue our proud tradition of Australian flagged vessels with friendly and professional Australian crew. Our onboard atmosphere remains refreshingly informal and intimate. Take your seat at our bridge lounge, chat with the captain at your leisure, accompany our chefs on a market tour – a Coral Expeditions cruise is like no other.

Page 4: CORAL ADVENTURER - Home Australia - Coral Expeditions · The Coral Adventurer features our trademark dual ‘Xplorer’ tenders cradled on a hydraulic platform slung off the back

When we set out to build the Coral Adventurer, we wanted a ship that would last us decades. Our search for build quality and technology took us to the shipbuilders of Norway who have a long history of building durable ships for the harsh environments of the North Sea. We then looked deep inside to capture the requirements of our guests, our crew and the areas we sail to. The result is a happy marriage of modern shipbuilding technology and cruising Australian style.

A NOTE FROM MASTER GARY WILSONIndigenous mariners of pre- written history have been sailing these waters for thousands of years - settling, trading and fishing; then it was the European explorers, in capable little sailing ships, that over a number of centuries, put these areas on the charts of the world and opened them up for further settlement and trade.

Our expeditions follow in the wake of some of these famous ships. One of my favourite ports is the Spice Island of Banda - it was from here that Willem Janszoon sailed the jacht (an armed scout ship) Duyfken to Cape York to become the first known European to touch the Australian coast in 1606. I was fortunate to sail as Mate and later Master of the replica Duyfken when we retraced that voyage in 2000.

However, there is one mariner, more than any other, that provides a historical connection to so many of the areas that we visit with Coral Expeditions - the Kimberley coast, Tasmania, New Zealand, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands - a superb seaman who made a series of remarkable voyages of exploration in some tough little ships that should be better known in history - Heemskerk, Zeehaen, Limmen, Zeemeeuw and Bracq. That man is Abel Janszoon Tasman.

2019 is the 375th anniversary of the 2nd of Tasman’s great voyages. In that year our new vessel, Coral Adventurer, will make her maiden voyage through the same waters that Tasman did, and his great explorations will provide the theme for our own voyages to these remote, spectacular and historic regions.

the expedition experienceWith a strong focus on visiting places not often touched by tourists, our shore excursions are designed to promote local interaction and cultural exchange.

One of the great benefits of travelling on a small ship is our ability to make impromptu stops. Our small group size ensures that our shore excursions are comfortable and enjoyable, but also have minimal impact on the communities and environments that we visit.

Most activities are suitable for all fitness levels; when a higher than normal level of fitness is required for an excursion, your Expedition Leader will advise you accordingly. You can expect one or two shore or in-sea activities each day, all included in your cruise fare.

cuisine and wineOn your Coral Expeditions cruise, you will enjoy fresh, small-batch cuisine prepared onboard using local ingredients. The small size of our ship enables us to adapt our modern Australian menu to the produce available locally.

With no more than 120 guests, our chefs can take a more indulgent approach to cooking. Dietary requirements or restrictions can be catered to with two weeks notice.

We are proud of our winelist - it is an abbreviated selection that reflects the depth and variety of Australian wine. Our ships also feature artisanal Australian and New Zealand spirits - including barrels of slowly aging Tasmanian single-malt whisky.

PLEASE NOTEThese are expedition itineraries covering remote regions. Your Captain and Expedition team will make changes to the daily schedule when necessary to maximise guest experience. These itineraries are indicative - some variation may occur due to weather conditions, safety, or local community requirements.
