Core Values Worksheet The core values of any organization are those that form the foundation for how employees work, clients interact with the company, and the company is perceived. These should be the primary values that every decision and action is based. Core values underlie the work. They govern personal relationships, clarify who we are, articulate what we stand for, help explain why we do business the way we do, and inform us on how to reward. HOW TO FIND YOUR CORE VALUES: 1. Sit down with your entire team. 2. Have everyone review the examples on the next sheet. 3. Give everyone a copy of the Printable Values List (2 pages). 4. Have each person choose their top 5. 5. Ask each person to share their top 5 and write them on a large board. 6. Once finished, go through every value and ask the team to vote on each one. a. You’ll find that some are similar, have the team vote on which is better. 7. After voting, erase or remove all those without votes. 8. From least to most, remove as many as you can down to your top 10. 9. Ask people to rank their most important 1-5. 10. Finalize your top 5-7 and ask the team if these values embody them. 11. Sleep on it. 12. After ruminating on the final words, pull your team together one more time. 13. Finalize top 4-7 words. 14. Post these to your website & print copies to keep in the office. Your core values can be in the form of a sentence, a short phrase or a word. It’s up to you, but keep them consistent. Your final core values should not change, no matter the size of your company.
