September 18 is here and its time to get our cars ready for the Car Show

of Casa de los Ninos Van Pershing has made all arrangements for our

TCA cars to enter and well have the same location as last year

Dewey Wilson will come to our meeting September 23 and speak on the

subject of Casa de los Ninos the Car Show and the parking of our cars

Those members who did not attend the last TCA meeting missed a very

interesting speech Our featured speaker Phil Richardson introduced by

Ron Bloom spoke for about fifteen minutes about the latest types of comshy

munications for trucks and cars

When I openedthe CORSA Communique for August 1992 and saw the Econo-

Run gas mileage on page 18 I thought the mileage (2584 mpg) was quite

low BUT THEN I opened the September 1992 issue and on page 11 the record

was 4888 mpg All I can say is WCM THAT is great mileage

The regular monthly meeting of the Tucson Corvair Association was called to order at 740 pm by President CECIL ALEX at picadilly Cafeteria Wednesday August 26 1992

Visitors were RANDY GRIFFITH

Minutes of the July meeting were accepted as published in CORVAIRSATION

Speaker for the evening was PHIL RICHARDSON who told us about voice communication development that would enable communication between vehicles and homes anywhere in the world as well as hard copy communishycation between any two terminals in the world in a very short time

RON ALLEN announced that we had $94938 in the treasury

DON ROBINSON reported that he had 9 new parts catalogues in stock at $4 apiece Also due to a special buy he would have taillight bulbs available We were interested in hearing of his bicycle trip across the state of Iowa

MARCY TUCKER announced that she had heard from our winter visitors Sam and Harriett Angus They said hello to everyone

BARRY CUNNINGHAM reported that a Potluck Pool Party was being planned for 1 pm Saturday September 19th at AL CRISPINs house They will let us know further details if necessary

GORDON CAUBLE reported that he and Verne had attended the 1992 National Corvair Convention JULY 28-AUGUST 1 in Atlanta He will have cOlored slides of the Concours winners at our next meeting

LUCKY AND EASY

How lucky we are to own an automobile that is a s easy to repair

as it is to drive After nearly 20 years of Corvair ownership

the vehicle still amazes me in so many ways I recently received

a call for a windshield The person wa s looking for good used

glass with installation After calling a number of installers

I was surprised to get a quote of under $180 for a new installed

windshield Windshields for a 58 Chev now a bargain at $400 or

how about a new Olds Try $1000 even

Ive seen running 110 hp engines sold for under $200 serviceable

4 speed Posi and Powerglide transaxles for $100 and finally

entire rust free and generally straight vehicles go for $200 - $300

thi s year There are literally times when while looking for an

engine Ive been offered the whole car for less than I reasonably

expected to pay for a motor (or for a set of new tires for that

matter)

Now for ease Of all the engines Ive ever removed from a vehicle

the absolute winner is the GreenbrierCorvan powe r package Eleven

bolts 4 or 5 wires fuel line and exhaust hanger will occupy you

for about 45 minutes Ive performed lunch hour brake jobs twenty

minute tune-ups the 10 minute fan belt replacement and - the five

minute fuel pump doe-se-doe

I was strictly a late model enthusiast until a few years ago After

parting with my Chev Crew Cab I discovered I still needed a truck

(this dawned on me after I had loaded a 30 x 9~ sheet of plastic

for delivery into the passenger side of my 65 4 door Honza) Then

the ugliest opportunity of my life came along a white and blue van

Neglected slightly dented very faded no matching wheels and one

carb seized forev e r were no defense for that Ill never forgive

you for this look I go t from Harcy Its turned out to be a

revelation for both of us Now in prime r gray with a totally

rebuilt power package weve logged nearly 20000 miles in it Weve

camped in it delivered a piano in the mountains haul ed a disabled

motorcycle 4 engines and transaxles and last week a 51 x 61 box

all in ease and spartan comfort

Every time I load the van I am amazed at its capacity and ability

Others are amazed by it also more times than not people will c6mment

on it when Im paTking OT refueling

This started out with lucky amp easy and nOl Ill come back to it

As COTvair owners we all should feel lucky that the caT was even

produced that the en~ineering and quality weTe built in and that

theTe is still a plentiful supply of sUTviving orphans and paTts

available And last but ceTtainly not least supeTioT knowledge

and advice as close as YOUT phone The only way it could be easieT

would be if MT NadeT offered to do YOUT diTty work but then Im

not SUTe he is qualified in that aTea either

The regular monthly meeting of the Tucson Corvair Association was called to order at 740 pm by President CECIL ALEX at picadilly Cafeteria Wednesday August 26 1992

Visitors were RANDY GRIFFITH

Minutes of the July meeting were accepted as published in CORVAIRSATION

Speaker for the evening was PHIL RICHARDSON who told us about voice communication development that would enable communication between vehicles and homes anywhere in the world as well as hard copy communishycation between any two terminals in the world in a very short time

RON ALLEN announced that we had $94938 in the treasury

DON ROBINSON reported that he had 9 new parts catalogues in stock at $4 apiece Also due to a special buy he would have taillight bulbs available We were interested in hearing of his bicycle trip across the state of Iowa

MARCY TUCKER announced that she had heard from our winter visitors Sam and Harriett Angus They said hello to everyone

BARRY CUNNINGHAM reported that a Potluck Pool Party was being planned for 1 pm Saturday September 19th at AL CRISPINs house They will let us know further details if necessary

LUCKY AND EASY

How lucky we are to own an automobile that is a s easy to repair

as it is to drive After nearly 20 years of Corvair ownership

the vehicle still amazes me in so many ways I recently received

a call for a windshield The person wa s looking for good used

glass with installation After calling a number of installers

I was surprised to get a quote of under $180 for a new installed

windshield Windshields for a 58 Chev now a bargain at $400 or

how about a new Olds Try $1000 even

Ive seen running 110 hp engines sold for under $200 serviceable

4 speed Posi and Powerglide transaxles for $100 and finally

entire rust free and generally straight vehicles go for $200 - $300

thi s year There are literally times when while looking for an

engine Ive been offered the whole car for less than I reasonably

expected to pay for a motor (or for a set of new tires for that

matter)

Now for ease Of all the engines Ive ever removed from a vehicle

the absolute winner is the GreenbrierCorvan powe r package Eleven

bolts 4 or 5 wires fuel line and exhaust hanger will occupy you

for about 45 minutes Ive performed lunch hour brake jobs twenty

minute tune-ups the 10 minute fan belt replacement and - the five

minute fuel pump doe-se-doe

I was strictly a late model enthusiast until a few years ago After

parting with my Chev Crew Cab I discovered I still needed a truck

(this dawned on me after I had loaded a 30 x 9~ sheet of plastic

for delivery into the passenger side of my 65 4 door Honza) Then

the ugliest opportunity of my life came along a white and blue van

Neglected slightly dented very faded no matching wheels and one

carb seized forev e r were no defense for that Ill never forgive

you for this look I go t from Harcy Its turned out to be a

revelation for both of us Now in prime r gray with a totally

rebuilt power package weve logged nearly 20000 miles in it Weve

camped in it delivered a piano in the mountains haul ed a disabled

motorcycle 4 engines and transaxles and last week a 51 x 61 box

all in ease and spartan comfort

Every time I load the van I am amazed at its capacity and ability

Others are amazed by it also more times than not people will c6mment

on it when Im paTking OT refueling

This started out with lucky amp easy and nOl Ill come back to it

As COTvair owners we all should feel lucky that the caT was even

produced that the en~ineering and quality weTe built in and that

theTe is still a plentiful supply of sUTviving orphans and paTts

available And last but ceTtainly not least supeTioT knowledge

and advice as close as YOUT phone The only way it could be easieT

would be if MT NadeT offered to do YOUT diTty work but then Im

not SUTe he is qualified in that aTea either

The regular monthly meeting of the Tucson Corvair Association was called to order at 740 pm by President CECIL ALEX at picadilly Cafeteria Wednesday August 26 1992

Visitors were RANDY GRIFFITH

Minutes of the July meeting were accepted as published in CORVAIRSATION

Speaker for the evening was PHIL RICHARDSON who told us about voice communication development that would enable communication between vehicles and homes anywhere in the world as well as hard copy communishycation between any two terminals in the world in a very short time

RON ALLEN announced that we had $94938 in the treasury

DON ROBINSON reported that he had 9 new parts catalogues in stock at $4 apiece Also due to a special buy he would have taillight bulbs available We were interested in hearing of his bicycle trip across the state of Iowa

MARCY TUCKER announced that she had heard from our winter visitors Sam and Harriett Angus They said hello to everyone

BARRY CUNNINGHAM reported that a Potluck Pool Party was being planned for 1 pm Saturday September 19th at AL CRISPINs house They will let us know further details if necessary

How lucky we are to own an automobile that is a s easy to repair

as it is to drive After nearly 20 years of Corvair ownership

the vehicle still amazes me in so many ways I recently received

a call for a windshield The person wa s looking for good used

glass with installation After calling a number of installers

I was surprised to get a quote of under $180 for a new installed

windshield Windshields for a 58 Chev now a bargain at $400 or

how about a new Olds Try $1000 even

Ive seen running 110 hp engines sold for under $200 serviceable

4 speed Posi and Powerglide transaxles for $100 and finally

entire rust free and generally straight vehicles go for $200 - $300

thi s year There are literally times when while looking for an

engine Ive been offered the whole car for less than I reasonably

expected to pay for a motor (or for a set of new tires for that

matter)

Now for ease Of all the engines Ive ever removed from a vehicle

the absolute winner is the GreenbrierCorvan powe r package Eleven

bolts 4 or 5 wires fuel line and exhaust hanger will occupy you

for about 45 minutes Ive performed lunch hour brake jobs twenty

minute tune-ups the 10 minute fan belt replacement and - the five

minute fuel pump doe-se-doe

I was strictly a late model enthusiast until a few years ago After

parting with my Chev Crew Cab I discovered I still needed a truck

(this dawned on me after I had loaded a 30 x 9~ sheet of plastic

for delivery into the passenger side of my 65 4 door Honza) Then

the ugliest opportunity of my life came along a white and blue van

Neglected slightly dented very faded no matching wheels and one

carb seized forev e r were no defense for that Ill never forgive

you for this look I go t from Harcy Its turned out to be a

revelation for both of us Now in prime r gray with a totally

rebuilt power package weve logged nearly 20000 miles in it Weve

camped in it delivered a piano in the mountains haul ed a disabled

motorcycle 4 engines and transaxles and last week a 51 x 61 box

all in ease and spartan comfort

Every time I load the van I am amazed at its capacity and ability

Others are amazed by it also more times than not people will c6mment

on it when Im paTking OT refueling

This started out with lucky amp easy and nOl Ill come back to it

As COTvair owners we all should feel lucky that the caT was even

produced that the en~ineering and quality weTe built in and that

theTe is still a plentiful supply of sUTviving orphans and paTts

available And last but ceTtainly not least supeTioT knowledge

and advice as close as YOUT phone The only way it could be easieT

would be if MT NadeT offered to do YOUT diTty work but then Im
