The Government of Lao PDR clearly recognizes Sanitation and Water as key indicators on issues of social equity.

Lao PDR sees Sanitation and Water as the fundamental human needs and as the priority for our development agendas relevant to national health, education and social wellbeing.

PROGRESS Beyond the international commitments to achieve its MDGs

2015 and to graduate from Least Developed Country by 2020.

Our MDGs target: 60% for improved basic sanitation. The country has almost met the target.

Household access to toilet facilities has gradually improved in recent years.

A significant budget allocation by public sector and development partners to implement the National Strategy on Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene.

Increased efforts and continues to work with development partners in implementing emergent approaches e.g. enabling environment, the integration of Sanitation and Hygiene into other programs (Maternal and Neonatal Child Health, Model Healthy Village, Poverty Eradication and Nutrition Promotion and Management programs).

Actively participation in Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) high level meeting DC. The government is keen to pursue its agenda on SWA and is actively engaged with the partners for the objective.
